The console wars are heating up once again, this time fueled by a recent performance comparison of The First Descendant on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Rigorous tests that measured different aspects of the gameplay’s performance revealed that the PlayStation console outperforms the Xbox Series X, much to the delight of PlayStation fans and the chagrin of Xbox users.

Almost as if on cue, this kickstarted a heated storm of reactions on Twitter, where players from both camps are taking shots at one another. Not to mention, the PC master-race folks who are also chiming in to slam both sides.

One comment mocks the Xbox, sarcastically calling it “The World’s Most Powerful Console.

Another comment attempted to knock OP down a peg, claiming that games relying on frame generation for frames look terrible and that the win wasn’t something to brag about.

Then, the PC users came in to dunk on all console players. It’s not new to see people go at each other’s throats like this over some pieces of metal that are branded differently, but it does get tiring.

In the video clip from Digital Foundry, it is reported that the PlayStation 5, with frame-gen and performance mode, outputs frames at a much higher rate than other consoles, peaking at 90fps.

As a result, it hits 90FPS much more than you’d expect and averages between 70 to 90.

With some console games in 2024 performing 30 frames a second at their best (looking at you, Dragon’s Dogma 2), this kind of performance is more than welcome.

However, as people have reported, frame-gen technology can impact the graphics. Ultimately, it’s up to you whether you prefer smooth gameplay and sub-optimal graphics or vice versa.
