Addressing Robert Downey Jr’s upcoming role as Doctor Doom, Gwyneth Paltrow surprisingly recognized that the character is a supervillain. Therefore, Paltrow’s acknowledgment about how Downey Jr’s role is going to mark a significant departure from his iconic portrayal of Tony Stark, impressed fans, given her occasional forgetfulness about her own roles.

Despite Confusion, Gwyneth Paltrow Recognized Robert Downey Jr’s Upcoming Character

Robert Downey Jr. is officially returning to the MCU, but this time he won’t be playing the role of the beloved Iron Man again. Given that Marvel quite brutally ended Tony Stark’s chapter in Avengers: Endgame, the Oscar-winner is therefore set to return as the iconic supervillain Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday

This particular news immediately spread like wildfire and began trending on social media. Given that Robert Downey Jr. is considered a greater-than-life personality for MCU, his return as a supervillain at 59, quite obviously stirred conversations among fans and celebrities. Particularly the actor’s announcement post on Instagram was overflown with comments.

But amid the chaos and debates, one person who seemed surprised and utterly confused by Robert Downey Jr’s Marvel return is his former co-star Gwyneth Paltrow. Therefore, taking to the comments section of Downey’s Instagram post, Paltrow quite innocently asked about his transition from the beloved hero to one of Marvel’s most formidable villains.

I don’t get it, are you a baddie now? Paltrow typed.

Thankfully, Gwyneth Paltrow at least realized that Robert Downey Jr’s upcoming role is about to be a villain. Although she is equally confused as every other Marvel fan, about how the studio is going to introduce Downey Jr. as a villain, given that he’s still fresh in people’s memories as Iron Man, Paltrow impressed fans with her comments for a reason.

The Actress Impressed Fans with Her Awareness Irrespective of Her Occasional Memory Slip

Taking to X, fans explained that Gwyneth Paltrow’s recognition of Robert Downey Jr.’s villainous turn is noteworthy given her previous memory slip about her own involvement in Spider-Man: Homecoming. After sharing the screen with Downey Jr. in  2008’s Iron Man, the duo went on to appear in two other standalone movies and also shared the screen in other Marvel flicks.

However, out of most of her MCU roles, (Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, etc), Gwyneth Paltrow surprisingly forgot about her role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Appearing as a guest in the first episode of Netflix‘s The Chef Show, alongside Jon Favreau, Paltrow appeared to have blocked out her Spider-Man: Homecoming scene from memory, during her conversation.

Well, it’s not her fault, since sometimes the MCU actors are kept in the dark about what they are filming to maintain secrecy. And moreover considering how Gwyneth Paltrow had a tiny role in Tom Holland‘s movie, it seemed quite obvious for her to forget about her appearance. But in the light of that incident, fans found it truly impressive that Paltrow recognized Doctor Doom as a baddie.
