When Xolo Maridueña made his debut as Blue Beetle, the DCEU was on its last legs. People in-charge expected Blue Beetle to restore some semblance to the franchise. It was not meant to be though. It wouldn’t take long for the James Gunn proposed reboot of the Universe to take shape. And many believed that Maridueña’s time as the Blue Beetle was over.
Little did they know that he would find a second wind. Not long afterwards, Gunn would confirm that not every DCEU story would lose their role. Few stars would continue to essay their roles. The 23-year-old was one of the rare few.

Yet it will be long before he’s seen in action. With a Blue Beetle animated series in development, everyone wants a scoop on the storyline about the upcoming series. And it looks like Xolo Maridueña might be the perfect star for a scoop. After all, as DC Comics stans would know, Blue Beetle has always remained close to Booster Gold, a dynamic Gunn and Safran might be willing to recreate.
With Booster Gold already confirmed, it is anyone’s guess that Xolo Maridueña’s character would be working up close with the hero from the future. And he would obviously have some beans to spill about Booster Gold. They were not wrong though, as he might have confirmed that Kumail Nanjiani is all set to essay the role.

The news might have sent shockwaves around the DC fan base. While Nanjiani’s name had been doing the rounds for quiet some time, the announcement comes as a surprise.

With this confirmation, he becomes one of the stars who would have worked with both Marvel and DC. While it remains to be seen how that situation pans out, fans are also excited about how the helmers of the series were not afraid to change the ethnicity of the superhero. After all, Booster Gold is one of the few DC superhero who knows how to have a good laugh, a role Nanjiani is extremely suited for.
While a release date is yet to be confirmed, the confirmation that the 46-year-old has been cast in the titular role will ensure that hype for Booster Gold is already sky high.
