The said insider has revealed that the actor’s off-screen party lifestyle could threaten his impressive rise to stardom.
Insiders claim that could jeopardize Paul Mescal’s rise in Hollywood
After giving the viewers, a sneak peak of his role in Gladiator 2, Paul Mescal was recently spotted at the Glastonbury festival. The actor was in attendance alongside his sister Nell, Saoirse Ronan, and Andrew Scott. In the midst of enjoying the vibrant atmosphere as reported by The Sun, the 28-year-old actor was spotted taking several deep inhales from a key after dipping it into a bag with an unknown substance.
This quickly made headlines that the actor was reportedly snorting drugs at the festival. Now adding to this, an insider has come out to detail the actor’s supposed dark past. In an exclusive interview via Life & Style, the insider who’s apparently been around the actor added:
It’s great to be the next Colin Farrell or Austin Butler but the real goal has to be realizing your full potential. (The source continues) There’s a growing consensus that Paul’s old habits, and his party-boy lifestyle in general, are going to be his biggest obstacles in that regard.
The insider also added that Mescal needs to understand his position within a larger industry framework. Further, any off-camera missteps might have far-reaching complications not just for him, but others as well involved in his projects. He added, “Especially with Gladiator II coming up and the persistent rumor that Paul is being scouted to anchor the upcoming Beatles biopic in the role of Paul McCartney.“
However, these claims remain speculative at the moment, and the actor has yet to address them publicly.
Paul Mescal’s career trajectory and subsequent Oscar nomination
Just after getting his acting degree from The Lir Academy at Trinity College Dublin in 2017, Paul Mescal quickly made a name for himself in Irish theaters. However, this was not enough for the actor, and in 2018, he transitioned to television, participating in a sausage brand commercial. But his big break was just waiting around the corner when he landed the role of Connell in 2020’s Normal People.
The plot of the miniseries follows the complicated relationship of Connell and Marianne, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones. The show went on to be a great success, earning Mescal critical acclaim and an Emmy nomination. But this was just the start for the actor, as in 2023 he secured an Oscar nomination for his role in Aftersun (2022).
In this, he’s up against the likes of Austin Buttler (Elvis), Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Brendan Fraser (The Whale), and Bill Nighy (Living). But even after such a wonderful feat, Paul Mescal is unstoppable, leading to the role of Lucius in the upcoming Gladiator 2.
