Another rising actor Paul Mescal previously voiced his desire to star alongside Edebiri in a rom-com. Fans immediately supported this dream casting and their excitement escalated when a popular author shared a photo involving the two. The author gave her seal of approval to fans believing that the two actors would be starring in one of her book adaptations.
Emily Henry Loves The Potential Casting of Paul Mescal and Ayo Edebiri in Beach Read
Paul Mescal and Ayo Edebiri are two of the most exciting actors working today. Both of them have done some great work in recent years that have shown their range as actors. Edebiri is already an Emmy winner and Mescal has never disappointed with his performances in his films including in his recent heartfelt film All of Us Strangers.
Both actors were recently seen together celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Popular author Emily Henry shared the photo on her Instagram, which led to fans believing that the two actors were going to star in the upcoming film adaptation of her book Beach Read (via People). Henry played coy about the speculations and told Variety that she would love having them in one of her adaptations.
Henry further stated that both actors are her favorite Irish actors and has seen all the fan-casting of the two actors online. She believes that if they end up being cast, they would be a great pair to watch on-screen. She said,
“I can’t confirm or deny anything with casting for any movie. I will say that those are two of my favorite ‘Irish’ actors. I do. I think that they would be amazing. I actually saw them being discussed [online] for several different roles — and I definitely have a favorite. But it’s fun, because different adaptations would either have one of them playing to type, or one of those adaptations would have them both playing to type, and one of them would have them both playing against type. It’s an interesting thing. I mean, they’re great, they could do anything.”
Writing duties for the adaptation of Henry’s books People We Meet on Vacation and Beach Read are currently happening. Mescal has already stated that he wants to star with Edebiri in a rom-com to Awards Watch. Fans are already campaigning for the pair and it will be great to see these actors shine in a charming rom-com.
Bottoms Director Praises Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri’s Incredible Improv Skills
Ayo Edebiri and Rachel Sennott starred in the 2023 comedy Bottoms where they played high school seniors starting a fight club in their efforts to impress cheerleaders. The film follows other successful female-led two-handers like Booksmart and director Emma Seligman brought the best out of the two actresses in the film.
Seligman told Esquire that she navigated the story and the film based on the incredible improvisations that the two actresses were doing on set. While they both kept the intention and essence of each scene in mind, their continuous improv brought so much freshness and energy to the film, She said,
“Ayo and Rachel are just such good improvisers—and also felt a certain amount of confidence on set, because we’re all so close—that they would just start improvising and my plan was derailed. So, I had to just manage their improvising, if anything. Let them do their thing completely, and just really try to keep in mind what the scene was. Which they were doing, too, but there wasn’t that much of a structure. It was very much just trying to navigate their process—as opposed to them navigating mine.”
As of 2024, Edebiri is returning as Chef Sydney in the third season of The Bear, premiering in June 2024. On the film side, she is leading the upcoming horror film Opus, directed by Mark Anthony Green in his feature directorial debut.
