Speaking critically of the singer, Edebiri told the host Laci Mosley that Lopez’s “whole career is one long scam”. “Well, that’s the thing — she thinks she’s on multiple tracks, but it’s not her. I think she thinks that she’s still good, even though she’s not singing for most of these songs…A lot of the write-ups of the songs will be like, ‘J.Lo didn’t have time to make it to the studio.’ Like, ‘J.Lo was busy.’ Doing what? However, while fans were curious to know about behind-the-scenes from the SNL episode and how Ayo Edebiri faced Jennifer Lopez, especially after her mean comments, the singer shared new details. During an interview for a Variety cover story, Lopez noted how the actress apologized to her ahead of their SNL episode.
According to Jennifer Lopez, before they filmed their Saturday Night Live episode, at the start of February 2024, Ayo Edebiri approached her in the dressing room and apologized to fix things. The singer claimed that while apologizing, the Emmy winner even broke down in tears and appeared mortified.
“She was mortified and very sweet. She came to my dressing room and apologized with tears in her eyes, saying how terrible it was that she had said those things. She felt really badly and loved my performance because we had just done my soundcheck and she actually got to hear me perform. She was just like, ‘I’m so f*cking sorry, it was so awful of me.’”
Further, Jennifer Lopez noted how she has repeatedly heard such claims about herself and rumors of using ghost singers. Therefore, unfazed by what people say about her and her career, Lopez mentioned forgiving Ayo Edebiri after the heartfelt apology.
