Looks like Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow might be out of action, as Disney is reportedly considering a significant change in the casting. While previously it was reported that the production studio had shelved Margot Robbie’s all-female Pirates of the Caribbean pitch, it now seems to be in development.
Reportedly casting The Bear actress Ayo Edebiri, Disney’s all-female Pirates of the Caribbean, is sparking a controversial debate online. Meanwhile, fans on X are seemingly supporting Disney’s alleged decision of replacing Johnny Depp with Edebiri to make the movie more inclusive.
Disney Reportedly Replaced Johnny Depp With Ayo Edebiri
After Johnny Depp was dropped from the sixth installment of the iconic Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, Disney had difficulty figuring out a way to continue the story without the superstar. For a while, it seemed the studio was planning to proceed with Margot Robbie‘s all-female-led Pirates reboot after previously shelving the project.
Now, Disney reportedly made headlines for casting the rising star from The Bear, Ayo Edebiri, in the role of real-life pirate Anne Bonny. Reportedly replacing Johnny Depp with an actress of color, as per NZ Herald, the production studio sparked debates and controversies online. Since the real-life Anne Bonny was white, fans seemed disappointed in Disney’s attempt at race-swapping.
Although the alleged casting of Ayo Edebiri wasn’t confirmed, several hardcore Johnny Depp fans and franchise lovers expressed dissatisfaction with Disney’s decision. Failing to envision the franchise without Depp’s charismatic Sparrow, the reported casting of Edebiri started a war on social media. Fans began expressing their disappointment in Disney’s way of destroying the franchise with an all-female cast and even began expecting the potential project to turn into a failure.
Fans Support Disney’s Attempt at Inclusiveness
However, it seems the social media war isn’t one-sided against Disney, for there are those who rushed to support the studio’s alleged decision to cast Ayo Edebiri. Highlighting the underlying racist attitude present in certain fans, based on their remarks, few fans began showing their unwavering support towards Disney.
Pointing out on X how Pirates of the Caribbean should have never happened without a Black cast in the first place, fans began supporting Edebiri’s casting. Meanwhile, in an attempt to show support, a few netizens even slammed Johnny Depp and expressed their excitement after the studio finally decided to replace him.
Few netizens even scoffed at how people on X are debating against the realistic aspect of having female pirates, while the film’s villain is an octopus-faced man. Further, addressing the racist claims of how the real-life Anne Bonny was white, netizens defended Ayo Edebiri’s casting with a racism card and later pointed out the similarity between both of their Irish bloodline.
Johnny Depp is a shit actor and his replacement in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was inevitable and the fact that it’s happening is proof that god is real.

I don’t know why all the incels are upset with the idea of Ayo Edebiri playing Anne Bonney as the lead in a new Pirates of the Caribbean film.
Anne Bonney was Irish, Ayo Edebiri is Irish. It’s perfect casting.
