Eiichiro Oda’s favorite hobby is to sprinkle easter eggs throughout One Piece, and it will be no different in the upcoming chapter of the manga. The author has created plenty of iconic characters for One Piece, but not many of them fit into the pirate stereotype: a hook for a hand, a wooden leg, and an eyepatch (optionally an evil parrot for a pet).
However, the spoilers for chapter 1122 of One Piece show a silhouette of Joy Boy, and he looks exactly like a typical pirate. This has raised anticipation among fans as everyone is ready for a proper Joy Boy reveal, something that has been long overdue.
Eiichiro Oda’s Hint at a Pirate with an Eye Patch in One Piece
In 2007, a comment by Eiichiro Oda was published in the 10th Treasures book, and it went viral among One Piece fans. According to the message, a pirate with an eye patch would appear in the final phase of One Piece. The author was itching to draw this character as soon as possible since he had never drawn any pirate with an eye patch before.
So far in the story, none of the characters have received the typical get-up of a pirate, but the elements have been introduced separately. For example, Zeff has a wooden leg, and Crocodile has a hook for a hand, but none of the pirates have all the features, including an eyepatch.
Oda had also hinted in the comment that the character would appear in the final phase of One Piece, so it has to be a super powerful one. Very few characters are yet to be introduced or revealed in the series, since it is nearing its finale. There is a high chance that the extremely powerful pirate with an eyepatch is actually Joy Boy.
Joy Boy Might be the Awaited Stereotypical Pirate
The spoilers for chapter 1122 of One Piece reveal something very shocking. A silhouette of Joy Boy is revealed, and in it, he is shown to have a single arm and a leg. One of his legs seems like a stick, while an arm of his resembles a Lego hand. Both are too thin to be real limbs. It seems like Oda is finally introducing the typical pirate elements, and he is concentrating them all in one person.
This leads one to think that maybe Joy Boy is the one who will wear an eye patch. After all, this is the final phase of One Piece, and Joy Boy’s powers are deemed to be superior. Given the fact that Joy Boy was able to shake up the entire world during his time, very few characters can be as powerful as him.
Of course, there is no guarantee that the pirate with an eye patch will end up being Joy Boy. It could also be an entirely different person; in fact, it might be an old character who has recently lost an eye. Eiichiro Oda can incorporate his idea in countless ways and it is not possible to track down his thought process. But for now, all you can remember is that an eye patch pirate is due in One Piece, and they are likely to play a major role in the story.
