Jude Law’s new Star Wars series has announced a Christmas release, but fans are careful not to get their hopes high. The new series, Skeleton Crew, goes back to what George Lucas had intended with Star Wars when he first created it—a joyful adventure for children. However, the disastrous outcome of The Acolyte has made many fans skeptical of the new series.

Fans Are Skeptical About Jude Law’s Skeleton Crew After The Acolyte Disaster
In the first look at the upcoming Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, Jude Law plays the role of Jod Na Nawood, a Jedi. The official Star Wars X account released the first look of the film along with a release date of December 3. The coming-of-age series explores the story of four children who get lost in a strange galaxy. The official synopsis read (via PEOPLE):
When four kids make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, they get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home, meeting unlikely allies and enemies will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.
The series comes from Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts and writer Christopher Ford, who serve as the creators. The episodes will be directed by some famed names, including The Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) and David Lowery.
However, fans are skeptical of the series after the disastrous outcome of The Acolyte. The earlier series from Leslye Headland faced significant backlash from Star Wars fandom for allegedly ruining George Lucas‘ lore. The perception that it was a “woke” show did not help the outcome of the series.
With a budget of $180 million, the series did not manage to garner enough viewers to justify that budget. Fans on X shared that while Law’s appearance in a Star Wars series is promising, they feared that he would be wasted like Lee Jung-jae‘s Sol in The Acolyte. I like Jude Law and set around the time of Mando has my interest peaked.
It was also revealed that the series took inspiration from the 1985 adventure comedy film The Goonies (via GamesRadar+). The events of Skeleton Crew take place around the same time as Pedro Pascal’s The Mandalorian.
Jude Law Describes Skeleton Crew As “Joyful”
During the interview with PEOPLE, Jude Law shared that the first word he would use to describe Skeleton Crew was “joyful”. He shared that he was excited to see the children in a Star Wars environment, having the adventure of their lives. He shared that the film included references to old films and series. He shared:
It is a fun place to be, the universe of Star Wars. And there are great references to old films and recent episodes and series. There’s a lot of originality and I hope that will bring the feeling of fun to those who watch it.
Law had an incredibly wonderful time making the series with everyone involved. He shared that the four child actors were fun and professional, adding that he felt proud to be part of their crew. Since the film comes around the celebratory Christmas time, there are rumors that the film could feature Life Day, a celebration of the values and tenets of Wookie culture, in it.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will premiere on Disney+ on December 3, 2024.
