The second season of House of the Dragon has continued to tease the impending battle between the Greens and The Blacks who are both vying for control of Westeros. While Rhaenyra and Alicent don’t want any bloodshed and are trying to prevent a catastrophe, the season has seen the death of some major players from both sides and the war seems inevitable at this point.

Daemon has also had a trippy arc this season as his weird visions continue haunting him during his stay in Harrenhal. His eerie visions indicated some of his conflicts with past characters and an innate vulnerability he has. However, the finale of season 2 showed Daemon’s visions foreshadowing the events of Game of Thrones, and fans aren’t happy with it.

The second season of House of the Dragon has sidelined Daemon for the majority of the season in Harrenhal. Although the character is successful in taking over the land through his dominance, various episodes have shown him seeing weird visions of various characters that have made him the man he is today.

Matt Smith‘s character has visions of young Rhaenyra, his mother Alyssa, and even his brother Viserys, and all these visions revolve around his desire to take over the throne. Instead of featuring another vision of his past, the finale of the season saw Daemon seeing a glimpse into the future featuring some familiar characters from Game of Thrones.

In addition to seeing a vision of him and Caraxes possibly having a dark fate, Daemon sees a shot of White Walkers from Game of Thrones and to everyone’s surprise, Daenerys Targaryen herself, covered in ash holding her dragons. This seems to indicate that Daenerys was the Prince(ss) That Was Promised in Aegon’s dream /prophecy that the Targaryens have passed down generation after generation.

However, in Game of Thrones, Jon Snow was clearly set up as the aforementioned prince, and season 8 completely wasted the character. Daenerys also never claimed the throne and instead burned everything down, which was extremely hated by fans. Seeing the Daenerys cameo in the finale understandably put some fans off with some calling it the worst finale ever. Here are some of the reactions on X,

As fans have pointed out, this foreshadowing goes against what happens in Game of Thrones, and with season 8 butchering fans’ expectations, they are clearly not happy with this reveal. On the other hand, Daemon also sees that Rhaenyra is the key to making the prophecy come true and ultimately comes to know what his part in all this is.

House of the Dragon Showrunner Does Not Want To Repeat Himself With Season 3

House of the Dragon has ended airing all the episodes of the second season recently and the ending teases new power dynamics and an exciting future for season 3. In an interview with GamesRadar, showrunner Ryan Condal revealed that he wants each season to offer a different experience for fans of the show.

Condal further stated that he and his team try to provide satisfying arcs for every character in a season and end it in an interesting way that perfectly sets up what is to come. He wants season 3 to have a new direction and does not want it to repeat the tropes of the previous seasons. The showrunner said,

Well, we’ll have to see. Yes, there’s a rhythm to all this, these kinds of stories as you tell them. And we’re trying to find satisfying arcs within the season structure. So, hopefully, you start with a bang, and then you build to another bang through the series, but you’re really trying to arc out the characters so that each season is a different experience for all of them.

And then you leave them off all in a place where you can pick up with them next year, and then take them in a new direction because you don’t want to end up in that place where you’re doing the same thing again and again.

The second season has been a rather slow one that sets up the motivations of each character. It feels like ‘the calm before the storm’ and season 3 is expected to be an explosive one where all hell breaks loose. But one has to wait quite a while as season 3 is not expected to premiere until 2026.
