Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the best role-playing gaming titles out there. However, the beginning of this journey was not so smooth. After the game’s release in 2020, the game was lauded with extreme hate for its awful performance and optimization.

This game was a nightmare on older generation consoles like Xbox One and PlayStation 4. But then came the Phantom Liberty DLC, which served as the revival of the game. Now, there are huge roars for the sequel of this game, and there might be a highly anticipated aspect that fans missed in this game.

Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Might Feature Multiplayer Mode

Cyberpunk 2077 was to set to have featured a multiplayer mode. But due to its dreadful launch, the developers had to scrap that idea. The game got into such a bad situation that the company had to remove the game from the PlayStation Store and issue refunds to players.

However, the successor of this game might feature an official multiplayer mode. This comes from the recent job posting on the CD Projekt Red website, as the studio is searching for a lead network programmer to “spearhead the development of online functionalities” for the studio’s “upcoming project”.

There are chances that this job posting is for the upcoming Witcher multiplayer game, which is known as Project Sirius and not specifically for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel Project Orion. Although, all the job postings for the game by The Molasses Flood are listed in a separate section.

This new position is listed in the Engineering section for all the games. So, the new Lead Network Programmer might well “play a pivotal role in designing and implementing the network architecture and online systems.”

In January 2024, the CEO of the development company, Adam Badowski, confirmed that they are thinking of adding multiplayer features. In an interview with Reuters, Badowski talked about this highly anticipated sequel.

According to Reuters, “the company was considering including multi-player elements but would not discuss details.” This means that fans might actually cherish some exciting aspects in the successor that they missed in the predecessor.

However, Badowski also stated that Project Orion is in the conceptual phase, but the company expects to have about 80 people working on that project by the end of the year.

As the sustaining wage pressure is reducing, the company will look forward to expanding its hiring coverage in its North American studio, but hiring in Polish studios would be “rather low.”
