One Piece has finally shifted gears as it enters the finale saga by introducing some of the major twists in the series. One of the twists that shocked the fans was when Navy’s Admiral Aokiji Kuzan joined the Blackbeard Pirates as their tenth commander. It is one of the biggest changes the series has ever seen considering the initial portrayal of Aokiji’s character.

Introduced during the Long Ring Long Land Arc, Aokiji has always been a peculiar character within the narrative. He is considered to be a very laid-back man who doesn’t have much care of the world. However, he has always been good at heart and carried a strong sense of justice that made his character iconic.

His recent endeavors as a pirate have raised many questions. But the most important one is why the World Government did not act upon the revelation of Aokiji joining one of the biggest villains in the entire series. His status as a Navy Admiral turned pirate should have made him the most dangerous man in the One Piece universe.

Aokiji Joining The Blackbeard Pirates Was Unexpected

Aokiji’s actions as a Navy Admiral have always portrayed him as a morally confused character. He has shown belief in the Navy’s principles but did not like the way they handled things. Irrespective of that, he has continued to live according to his own terms but also followed rules when it was absolutely needed.

However, when the time skip ended, it was revealed that Aokiji and Sakazuki were chosen for the designation of Fleet Admiral, which led to a 1-on-1 battle between the two Admirals. The winner of the battle would have rightfully earned the role, and Sakazuki managed to somehow defeat Aokiji. But Aokiji refused to live under the command of Sakazuki.

He left the Navy and became a wanderer with no confirmed destination. While he was traveling, he met with the Blackbeard Pirates and, for some reason, decided to join them in their goals. This was one of the most unexpected twists that Eiichiro Oda introduced in One Piece for a long time.

Aokiji Kuzan Might Be A Threat To The Navy

Apprehensive_Bee9924 recently shared a theory on OPFanpage about why Aokiji should be considered the most wanted man on the planet by the World Government. The theory states that considering Aokiji’s former status as Navy Admiral, the World Government might have surely forced him into situations that he did not agree with.

Additionally, he had a good reputation amongst the troops of the Navy and also had knowledge about major Navy secrets that could pose a threat to their authority. His transformation from an Admiral to a pirate certainly poses a risk of all that information being leaked to the not-so-good characters of the One Piece world.

Thus, the World Government should have not only acted immediately to stop the Blackbeard Pirates, but they should have also labeled Aokiji as the most dangerous man on the planet. But it also hints that Aokiji might actually be a spy of the World Government, and they have sent him to keep a close eye on one of the biggest One Piece villains.
