American Pie may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it has certainly enjoyed wide appeal. The movie series helped launch several actors to fame, with Jason Biggs in particular gaining popularity as the lead star. Starring as the awkward yet lovable Jim Levenstein in the original movies, the actor has gone on to star in several notable roles.

While American Pie remains his most famous role, Buggs once revealed he had a chance to star in one of the biggest sitcoms of all time, How I Met Your Mother. Offered the role of Ted Mosby, Biggs continues to regret turning down the role despite having loved the role.

Before Josh Radnor became synonymous with the role of Ted Mosby on How I Met Your Mother, it was the American Pie star Jason Biggs who was offered the role in the sitcom. Riding high on his fame with the s*x comedy movies, Biggs was one of the biggest movie actors of that time.

So when he was offered the role of Ted Mosby, an often unlucky-in-love character, Biggs was happy to let go of it for he liked the prospect of working on one project and then pursuing other things. Despite acknowledging the script was entertaining and the character well-written, Biggs chose to let the project, which later turned out to be no less than a career suicide for the actor.

It is probably my biggest regret… It sounds so obnoxious to say right now but at the time… I wasn’t quite ready to go that route… Committing to a TV show at the time… I thought I don’t think it was for me.

Stated Biggs to SiriusXM while he revealed how he still regrets turning down the role. Soon after he turned down the role, the sitcom hit the screens and is now widely counted among the best ones of all time. Yet, we can’t help but wonder about the big ‘what if’ moment if Biggs had taken up the role.

Jason Biggs’ turning down the role of Ted Mosby paved the way for Josh Radnor, who went on to make the character one of the most iconic characters on TV. While Radnor enjoyed widespread acclaim and continues to be known for the role, Biggs struggled to get notable roles despite his American Pie success.

While How I Met Your Mother made it big, Biggs decided to turn to the television industry after all. Despite being a popular actor and a brilliant one at that too, landing a TV gig was not as easy as it seemed. Biggs ultimately ended up spending almost four years or more struggling to land any suitable roles.

Success eventually followed through when Biggs bagged the role of Larry Bloom in Netflix’s Orange is the New Black. While the American Pie star does not regret his career and is lucky to still be in business, he sure does regret turning down the CBS show.

Both How I Met Your Mother and Orange is the New Black can be streamed on Netflix.
