The modern era of the Star Wars franchise has been pretty middling, to say the least as most of the offerings have been underwhelming for fans. The theatrical trilogy that started with The Force Awakens was highly divisive with fans not necessarily jiving with the choices made with their beloved characters from the original trilogy.

Apart from The Mandalorian and Andor, the Disney+ Star Wars shows have failed to reinvigorate the franchise. Its recent offering The Acolyte further diminished fans’ expectations from the once beloved IP. However, all that could change with the upcoming Skeleton Crew series as fans are impressed with its first trailer.

After the disappointing results of The Acolyte, Star Wars has yet another series coming up this year with Skeleton Crew. The show is co-created and executive produced by Jon Watts who is also directing some of the episodes. In an interview with Collider, the director revealed that the show is about a group of kids who are trying to return home after getting lost in the galaxy.

Watts further stated that the show does not require any prior knowledge of the Star Wars franchise to enjoy. However, loyal fans will get an added enjoyment with the show with all of its Easter eggs and references. He said,

It’s about a group of kids that find a mysterious secret on their planet and accidentally get lost out in the galaxy, and it’s the story about them trying to find their way back home,” he said. “You don’t need to have really any prior Star Wars knowledge to enjoy it. But if you do, you can enjoy it on many levels.

Skeleton Crew will star Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Jude Law, and Kerry Condon. The first trailer of the show was recently released at D23 and the eight-episode series will premiere on Disney+ on December 3, 2024
