Gears of War: E-Day, the latest from The Coalition and Xbox Game Studios, is highly anticipated. Fans are buzzing with speculation about what the game will bring and what it needs to nail to be a success.
Many fans believe that for the game to reach greatness, it needs to break away from a staple of the Gears of War franchise. Otherwise, they are concerned that the quality of the game may decrease and it will not meet expectations.
Fans Think Gears of War: E-Day Doesn’t Need a Main Antagonist
After Gears of War: E-Day was announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, speculation about the big bad began to swirl, with names like RAAM, Jermad, and Karn being frequently mentioned. However, a significant number of fans seem to have different opinions.
Many believe the game doesn’t need a big bad, arguing that the focus should be on reintroducing the Locust as an unknowable force. They say the people of Sera know nothing about the Locust, which would make the attacks more terrifying and unpredictable.

They argue that having a big bad would make the story more predictable and, ultimately, lessen its impact. While fans aren’t opposed to characters like RAAM or Skorge, they believe they shouldn’t take center stage. Instead, they feel the Locust as a whole should be the main threat.
They believe it would be more fitting for the game’s final fight to resemble the approach taken in BioShock 2. Rather than centering on a single big bad, like the Frank Fontaine boss fight in BioShock 1, they suggest the final boss fight should focus on all the game’s enemies, making it more impactful.
When Will Gears of War: E-Day Be Released?
After Microsoft unveiled Gears of War: E-Day with its first trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, not much else has been revealed about the game. However, it’s expected to be released in 2025 or early 2026. With plenty of time still ahead, more details about the game are likely to emerge in the future.
The game’s plot is set fourteen years before Gears of War. War heroes Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago return home to face the nightmare of the Locust Horde. If these brutal underground monsters aren’t stopped, they could bring about the end of humanity.
Yeah, protecting and evacuating civilians safely should be your top priority, while also taking care of yourself. The Locust Horde will show no mercy to anyone. Lastly, the game is set to be released for Windows and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
What do you think about this? Do you agree with people that the game doesn’t need a main antagonist? Or will the developer studio ignore all these requests and follow a different path? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
