Captain Marvel has always been an iconic and inspirational character, long before Brie Larson assumed her identity. Being one of the most powerful characters in the comics, there are several reasons why fans adore her. Although Larson does an excellent job of portraying her, several other actors were brought into the conversation before her casting was announced.
While many actresses like Margot Robbie, Emily Blunt, Katheryn Winnick, and even Emma Stone were thought perfect for the role, there was another actress who was dominating the discussion. She happened to be the Olympic bronze medal winner; Ronda Rousey.
There Was Someone More Qualified Than Brie Larson?
The role of Captain Marvel is one that requires quite a lot of physical strength. Even though she has powers on a cosmic level, having the energy of an entire star in her, Carol Danvers likes to get her hands dirty and predominantly uses her brute strength to defeat her enemies. Due to this aspect of her character, Brie Larson also has to work out a great deal to get into the shape that Danvers requires.
While Larson is an excellent actress, it would seem that fans were looking to cast someone who would take on the physical challenges of her role more easily. Due to this, many fans thought that Ronda Rousey would be the perfect fit. She has starred in several iconic films, including The Expendables and the Fast and the Furious series. She has also been a very prominent part of the UFC and WWE worlds.
However, many of her fans may not know that she is also an Olympic bronze medal winner. In the 2008 Summer Olympics, she became the first-ever American woman to win an Olympic medal in judo when she won the bronze medal in the Judo Women’s 70 kg event. It is safe to say that this hunt and casting were impressive on the fans’ part.
Ronda Rousey Was Very Interested
Although many would think that the conversation among fans about Ronda Rousey being perfect for the role of Captain Marvel was brushed under the carpet, that wasn’t what happened. In fact, the conversation was started by the actress herself. In a Reddit thread, she was asked if she was interested in playing a superhero character, and her answer was Ms. Marvel.
Considering how Ms. Marvel was changed into Captain Marvel, and now Ms. Marvel is Kamala Khan, it would not be far-fetched to assume that she was talking about Carol Danvers. The comment ended up igniting a spark among fans, who desperately wanted the actress to play the character.

Soon, there were several famous fanart accounts that were making art of her as the character. While some would think the conversation ended there, she added more to it. She made a post on her Instagram account, addressing all the buzz and putting forth her favorite fan art of herself as the characters.
Not only was she flattered that the fans thought her to be a good fit, but she also seemed to be very interested in playing the character.
