Miley Cyrus has another crowning achievement to her name as Disney honored her with a Disney Legend award on Sunday at the D23 event. Her recognition came primarily for her performance in the 2006-2011 Disney series, Hannah Montana. With the new title, Cyrus also surpasses other Disney stars, particularly Selena Gomez, to become the youngest honoree.
Earlier this year, Cyrus also won the Grammy for Record of the Year for Flowers. In comparison, Gomez has never won a Grammy in her life. Interestingly, Gomez and Cyrus also had a reported feud which seemingly died down in recent years.
Selena Gomez Has A Lot to Catch Up With Miley Cyrus After Her Two Achievements This Year
At Disney’s D23 fan event, Miley Cyrus was honored for her impact on the media conglomerate’s legacy along with thirteen other celebrities. She played the titular role of Hannah Montana from 2006 to 2011 and she used her acceptance speech to thank the fans of the show.
She received the honor from Lainey Wilson and went on to make the joke that she was hired alongside Bob Iger in 2005 to rebuild and reimagine Disney. Cyrus further shared how the show had also promoted her as a pop star before anyone knew who she was.
The makers of Hannah Montana conducted a show at the Glendale Mall before her rise to fame, where she opened with the song This is the Life. She shared in her acceptance speech:

At the age of 31, Cyrus is the youngest star to receive a Disney Legend honor. This year comes as a double delight for the Wrecking Ball singer after she won her first Grammy this year. She won two awards, Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, both for the song Flowers.
As Cyrus climbs to the top of her career this year with such great achievements, Selena Gomez fans will be a little disappointed. While Cyrus’s breakthrough Disney role came in 2006, Gomez’s big break came in 2007 with her role as Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place. She had made several cameo appearances in Disney shows, even appearing as Cyrus’s rival pop star in Hannah Montana.
Cyrus’s solo career began with the US number-one pop rock albums Meet Miley Cyrus and Breakout. Her singles See You Again and 7 Things gained a spot amongst the Billboard top-ten singles. Gomez signed with Hollywood Records in 2008 and formed the pop-rock band Selena Gomez & the Scene. Her solo career began with her EDM-inspired debut Stars Dance in 2013.
Sadly, Gomez has yet to win a Grammy for her music career. Gomez has now turned most of her attention to her business venture, Rare Beauty. She’s also into a few great acting roles, including Only Murders in the Building.
Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus Reportedly Had A Frenemy-Type Relationship
According to Bustle, Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez’s alleged feud goes all the way back to 2006 when they were both Disney kids. Both of the singers dated Nick Jonas and the boyfriend deal sparked a rumor that they didn’t get along well. After Gomez broke up with Justin Bieber in 2012, Cyrus was seen in collaborations with Bieber and they even hung out a few times (via J-14).
During her 2014 album called FU, the Malibu singer had a cardboard cutout of Gomez during one of her songs. However, they shared a more friendly relationship recently, with Gomez mentioning her as one of her oldest friends during a 2022 SNL monologue.
