Kit Harington spent nearly a decade playing one of the most serious characters on television, the brooding Jon Snow from Game of Thrones. Having embodied such a character for a significant part of his career, Harington’s image too has come to be associated with that of his character. Since Jon Snow remained steadfastly solemn throughout his time in the series, it understandably was not easy for the actor to maintain the somberity.

Describing himself as a ‘funny person’, when Harington joined the cast of season 3 of TV’s latest hot show, Industry, the actor had only one request for the markers: to add a touch of humor to his character.

Kit Harington is best known for playing the unflinchingly serious Jon Snow in Game of Thrones. After years of portraying him in the fantasy show packed with drama, his stoic portrayal seems just fitting for the solemn world of Westeros. But as an actor, who prefers to describe himself as ‘funny’, it was rather hard to keep playing a somber character without so much as a hint of humor.

So when Harington was cast as Henry Muck in HBO’s delightful Succession-esque, Industry season 3, he only had one request. In a recent interview with Film Updates, creator Mickey Down, stated the following about Harington’s Game of Thrones character.

Obviously, we know Kit is very charming, but on Game of Thrones, he played this incredible superhero-type character. He obviously had vulnerabilities and stuff, but it was just like he was this super earnest character who could do no wrong.

Stated Down as he went on to reveal Harington’s desperate request about his Industry character,

And he joked with us that in 10 years of Game of Thrones, he wasn’t allowed to make a single joke. He was like, ‘I’m a funny person, can I please make a joke?’ So we thought, ‘Okay, let’s write humor for this character.’

While Harington did an excellent job at bringing the solemn and traditional version of Jon Snow to live action, he rarely had the chance to show off his natural charm and wit. With his entry into Industry, it is safe to say that he has gotten enough chances to break free from the stoic mold and show off the alluring charisma that fans love.

Mickey Down and Konrad Kay’s Industry premiered in 2020, at the height of the pandemic. Since then it has evolved as one of the best shows centering in the world of finance and business. With season 3 just released, fan expectations are high, given its previous seasons and the addition of new cast members. Joining the show is Kit Harington as the charming Henry Muck, CEO of a green tech energy company called Lumi.

While Harington delivers one of his best performances to date, joining the show was all his idea, as Mickey Down revealed to Film Updates.

We’d already started writing Henry’s character [when Harington reached out]…  ‘Okay, who is the person that’s going to play this character?’ … And then, in a moment of kismet, Kit contacted us saying he’s a big fan of the show and asked if there was anything he could do in it.

Impressed by Harington’s interest and his view on the character, he was promptly cast as the alluring CEO. Even the Game of Thrones alum revealed in his latest interview with GQ, that he had been a fan for a long time thanks to its totally unique storyline.
