Every Game of Thrones fan is certainly very concerned with the status of George R.R. Martin’s upcoming sixth novel, The Winds of Winter, as the author refuses to give a specific release date. It also doesn’t help that many supporters of the franchise have been concocting speculations as to the author’s health, or worse, his possible death.
This is what enrages Kit Harington. The actor notably played Jon Snow in the Game of Thrones saga, and he’s particularly not fond of people saying crude stuff about Martin’s well-being.
Kit Harington Defends George R.R. Martin From Fans Who Speculate About His Death
In his interview with The Guardian, actor Kit Harington reacted to fans’ deep concern about the possibility that George R.R. Martin may not finish The Winds of Winter within his lifetime.
I actually get very angry when I hear things like that. It’s sort of indicative of what’s wrong with the world today – so many anonymous voices getting to say what they want.
The London native argued the author has gifted fans something wonderful and this is how they repay him. “He’s like: ‘I hand it to all my fans and then they start sending me messages about how I might die before I finish them,’” says Harington. “I’m very glad that he hasn’t just given up as a result. He has a lot of very supportive fans, too,” he added.
Martin already shared a response to people predicting his death. He said in an interview with Swiss daily newspaper Tages-Anzeiger: “I find that question pretty offensive, frankly, when people start speculating as to my death and my health. So, f—k you to those people.” He also made sure to put up an explicit hand gesture in front of the camera for intensity.
George R.R. Martin’s Latest Update On The Winds of Winter
Last month, Martin provided fans with a quick update about The Winds of Winter, but it wasn’t what everyone expected. In fact, it’s a disappointing one.
Last year, when I mentioned seeing my Voyager editor in London, the internet went nuts, throwing up all sorts of theories about how this meant that WINDS OF WINTER was done and a huge announcement was at hand. Uhhhh… sorry guys, but no.
Martin went on to explain how the business is done and how it entails lots of meetings with publishers, literary agents, and editors in different countries. He clarified that his previous announcement does not signify the book is finished.
“When WINDS OF WINTER is done, the word will not trickle out, there WILL be a big announcement…” he said, but as to where and when, he could not say. Fans would remember his update in 2022 revealed that the book is three-quarters done.
Regardless, he’s also busy with many other things both within and outside the Game of Thrones world so Martin may find it difficult to set aside some time where he would just sit down and type away.
Game of Thrones is streaming on HBO as of August 16, 2024.
