The Difference in Net Worth Between The Top Two Manga Creators

A few months ago, the anime and manga fan page @tamirsverse on Instagram shared a post about the top ten richest manga creators in history.

The list contained many prominent names like Takehiko Inoue, Masashi Kishimoto, Yoshihiro Togashi, Tite Kubo, Hajime Isayama, etc.

Although the list had the names of some of the greatest manga creators of all time, the top three spots were grabbed by Akira Toriyama for Dragon Ball, Rumiko Takahashi for Ranma ½, and Inuyasha and Oda for One Piece. Toriyama was placed third with an estimated net worth of 55 million dollars, and Takahashi took the second spot with an estimated net worth of 65 million dollars.

While these numbers look interesting, they are nothing compared to what Oda has been generating with One Piece. According to the post, Eiichiro Oda’s estimated net worth is around 230 million dollars. This means that he earns 165 million more than the second-highest manga creator in the whole world. This number is terrifying and, at the same time, interesting considering Oda’s popularity.

Manga Creators’ Methods of Making Money

The first source of income for any manga creator is through the weekly and monthly publishing magazines that release their work for the fans and readers. However, the revenue generated from these published manga chapters and series is pretty low, and even established manga creators do not earn much from it.

But this is not the only way a manga creator can earn money. The main source of income for any manga creator is through the royalties that they earn. These royalties come from other fields like anime, merchandise, volumes, games, etc. These royalties are pretty high as the audience graph rises significantly because of these fields.

Although there are other sources of income for manga artists, almost every creator prefers the basic methods of earning money as it not only helps in generating decent income but also helps in earning fame and recognition within the industry.

As of 17th August 2024, you can watch One Piece on Crunchyroll.
