Phil Spencer has been the head of Microsoft Gaming for nearly a decade and has significantly contributed to the expansion and global presence of Xbox. However, not all of Spencer’s ideas were well received, and the memory of the gaming community is not to be trifled with.

The game industry has been through many changes since recent innovations from the previous console generation were discovered, which gave studio heads ambitious ideas. Spencer and Microsoft went on an aggressive acquisition spree and now own Bethesda Game Studios and all future projects.

The Xbox platform has been through some tough times, especially when the head of the company is not on the good side of the gaming community. Phil Spencer has a terrible track record of keeping his promises to the gaming community.

The recent announcement of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle coming to the PlayStation 5 a few months after the release on the native platform is another one of his false promises of ending first-party ports.

Fans expected the upcoming game to be shared with rival companies but did not anticipate it this soon. Those in attendance during the reveal at Gamescom 2024 shared their reactions, and some fans are convinced that nothing from Spencer can be trusted after this turn of events.

The project was in development before Microsoft acquired Bethesda Game Studios and was meant to be a multiplatform title. Perhaps the company realized the work had already started and did not want to waste the effort.

However, this did not do Spencer any favors after he claimed that the game was not coming to PS5 and that Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, and Grounded would be the only first-party exclusives to be ported to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation consoles, at least for now.

Spencer has a lot to answer for, and the gaming community is running out of faith in him after consistently failing to keep his word. Perhaps this is a rare situation that has nothing to do with Spencer and could involve an external agreement with Disney and Lucasfilm.

Nevertheless, this is not ideal for the Xbox brand. The company may have superior hardware, but its lack of quality first-party exclusives is the problem, and rather than keep what little Spencer has left for the console, they are giving it away.

Spencer clarified that neither Starfield nor Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be available on the PlayStation 5 during an Xbox Podcast over 6 months ago. However, the recent announcement suggests this was only a temporary decision.

There is a strong likelihood of PlayStation owners getting their hands on Starfield sooner rather than later.

The gaming community was bold enough to call out Spencer for being the head of the snake for the drastic decline of high-quality video game output by aggressively acquiring third-party developers only to shut them down after. Perhaps these ports could be his option to help recover what the company lost.

There were conversations about potentially porting Halo, the mascot of the Xbox brand and arguably the only worthwhile first-party exclusive, to the PlayStation 5, which caused major turmoil within the gaming community.

Spencer is losing all his credibility and the trust of the fans, and the future of Xbox is now in peril. Platform supporters are on the shorter end of the stick again.
