When it comes to leaders and power systems in Naruto, it’s a hit or miss. Masashi Kishimoto’s manga explores friendship, strength, and power systems along with a sprinkle of some spunk. It also blends in folklore and myths beautifully. While the original series uncovered heavy aspects of politics and corruption, Boruto is the complete opposite.
The spin-off series shows a realistic side to Naruto’s role as a Hokage. While he may not be as conniving or prejudiced as the previous Hokage, his stint as the village leader had many Reddit fans point to the lack of corruption in Boruto.
Masashi Kishimoto made Naruto a broke yet bold Hokage in Boruto
Naruto is the titular protagonist of Masashi Kishimoto‘s manga. Apart from being a knucklehead, he’s headstrong in his ambitions. Be it shadow clone jutsu or Rasengan, he mastered several jutsu and showed immense growth. All in all, the hero’s journey to becoming a Hokage was nothing short of an ordeal.
From his loneliness to his pursuit of acknowledgment, the titular protagonist fought tooth and nail to be seen and accepted. His ostracization from the village coupled with his Hokage dream became the catalyst for his growth and development.
While Jiraiya’s training and the hero’s zeal boosted his character growth, fans had a lot to say regarding the Seventh Hokage. This Reddit user noted how the lack of corruption in the Boruto series made him broke.

While he may be a broke Hokage, Naruto is a far better village leader than the previous Hokage. This is clear in Masashi Kishimoto’s spin-off sequel Boruto.
Naruto is a far superior Hokage than his predecessors
Despite being ostracized throughout his childhood, Naruto’s relentless resolve makes him different. His empathy and respect extended even to his enemies which made him different from previous Hokage. To say the least, he’s far superior to the previous Hokage in terms of personality and character. And there’s more to it.
Be it Tobirama Senju’s hate toward Uchihas or Hashirama Senju’s gambling and alcohol addiction, Naruto’s actions do not align with these social evils. The Second Hokage holds the reputation for being the worst Hokage in the series especially due to his legacy of hate carried by Danzo. Moreover, his creation of Edo Tensei shows his lack of responsibility.
Besides that, the Third Hokage’s inability to stop Orochimaru, Root, and the Uchiha massacre makes him one of the worst leaders. He enabled the ostracization of Naruto and failed to live up to his role. All in all, Naruto is a far better leader in this era of peace in Boruto due to his empathy, strength, accountability, and lack of prejudice.
Naruto and Boruto: Naruto The Next Generations are available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
