When Zayn Malik left One Direction in the Spring of 2015, fans were absolutely heartbroken. After all, it was in some way, the beginning of the end. Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Harry Styles continued the band without their fifth member. However, neither of them reportedly renewed their contracts and went on a hiatus soon after. And in 2016, things ended permanently.

While fans are still hoping and waiting for a reunion, it does not look like the Directioners will be getting one in the near future. To mend their broken hearts, fans often pull up old interview moments of the band where they are just having fun and being total goofballs. However, there is one interview where things seem the complete opposite.

One Direction Like Never Before

One Direction was a part of the line-up for Band Aid 30, a charity supergroup contributing towards battling the Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa. Other artists included Rita Ora, Ed Sheeran, Chris Martin, and more. All of them came together to cover the track Do They Know It’s Christmas? which was first released in 1984.

During an interview for the charity, with just the five of them, things seemed a bit tense between the group. The interview took place on November 17, 2004. Liam Payne tried to keep his demeanor professional as he took the lead in the interview. On the other hand, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Harry Styles looked absolutely out of it. Louis Tomlinson was the only member “in character.”

While Horan looked like he was fuming on the inside, Malik and Styles just seemed like they were shattered into pieces. Fans suspect that the interview probably happened just after the Pillow Talk singer broke the news about his departure from One Direction or Styles suggested a hiatus.

Either way, the awkward interview saved by Payne and Tomlinson is only about three minutes long but it is enough to shatter the heart of any hardcore Directioner out there.

Ten years have gone by since the release of the Band Aid 30 interview but it looks like the wounds are still fresh. Fans are still wondering what went wrong and trying to piece everything together like a mad scientist.

Of course, it must not have been easy for the fans to see their favorite boys so out of it, as opposed to their usual cheerful selves. People are convinced that some big news was dropped at the same time which is why they could not bring themselves to mask their true emotions.

Here are just a few things fans had to say about the interview:

@soapscrubharry’s eyes are crazy and he look like he about to cry, zayn looks depressed, and niall is angry or some sh-t.

@jadepercival2287 – this is the exact interview where you could see things start to crack internally.

@Charlotte757 – Harry is totally out of and and his eyes are crazy, Zayn seems depressed and Niall look mad.

@nadiaong5726 – All I see is tense moments. I respect Liam for being able to stay cool under the tense atmosphere during the interview.

@pearlramirez1532 – I’m literally tearing up, Harry said he mentioned a hiatus in 2014 in London, during this interview it seems like Harry is tearing up, zayns closed off, Niall seems pissed, he’s not laughing, he barley looks at Harry, while Liam and Louis try to keep the conversation going.

In a Rolling Stones interview, it was revealed that Styles first brought up the idea of a hiatus in a London studio in late 2014 as he didn’t want to “exhaust” the fan base. Since the Band-Aid 30 single was recorded around the same time at Sarm West Studios in Notting Hill, London, the consensus seems to be that the bad moods of the guys in the interview are because of this reason.

As of now, all five of the former band members are enjoying the heights of their solo career but fans are still hoping that maybe one day, they’ll return.
