The Flash is finally released on the big screen after going through multiple changes, although it was initially set to be released on 23 March 2018, due to many unforeseen reasons and the covid outbreak, it had to be deferred to 16 June 2023. Flash is one of the initial members of the Justice League and has a heavy sense of responsibility towards his family and his people. Initially a comic character, he is one of the most loved superheroes of the DCU franchise.

The production for a Flash movie was set into motion in the late 80s, and although no solid decision was made regarding the movie, the plans were on halt until 2014 when real development and a green light were given for the movie. Currently, social media is filled with a talk related to the movie and the potential future of Warner Bros. and DCU.

DCU Faces Another Failure: The Flash This Time Around

After building up the hype for the movie years before its release and with decades-long production, The Flash was expected to rock the box office and potentially break a couple of records on its way there. But what we got to witness at the theatres was nowhere near the level of hype it built up, moreover, the movie is experiencing a dreadful box office collection. The way it looks, it will have a lot of trouble breaking the $200 million mark, apart from it, the movie is also getting flamed with poor and negative reviews from both the fans and the critic reviewers.

Every DCU fan and follower has taken to their social media account to express their views on the movie and although some supported The Flash, claiming it to be a good movie, they were immediately shut down by the amount of hate and the negative response the movie garnered. After facing multiple failures at the box office with Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash, fans have now lost hope in DCU and are now resorting to Barbie to save WB from potential risk. Although James Gunn has a plan formulated for the franchise, it will not be before 2025 that they can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.

James Gunn’s Plans For the Multi-Billion Dollar Franchise

Ever since the DC reboot, things have not been going well for the franchise, with multiple box-office failures DCU is currently at its lowest. Black Adam could only earn $393 million at the box office after its release worldwide from a large production budget of $195 million. Shazam! Fury of the Gods earned a measly $133.7 million from a budget of $100 million and the most recent The Flash has earned $176.7 million from a budget of more than $200 million. So taking all these into account, it is only fair to say that DCU is currently sinking. What the fans feared might truly come to a realization.

Gods and Monsters will have to play a very important role if the franchise ever wants to climb out of its swamp. With projects like Superman: Legacy, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, and The Authority the franchise is looking good to go, but not before 2025. The series section will also not fall behind as it has the Creature Commandos, Waller, Booster Gold, Paradise Lost, and Lanterns which will most probably be enough to carry forward the whole franchise forward with Superman: Legacy breaking the ice on 11 July 2025.

Barbie will premiere at the theatres on July 21, 2023.
