If you are a fan of the God of War series and have been wondering what the original games would look like with up-to-date graphics, then look no further. A YouTuber and digital artist known as Teaserplay has created a concept video showing what the original 2005 God of War would have looked like if it were created now rather than back then.

During this short video, gamers will be able to take in the glorious view of Greece, which has been rendered using Unreal Engine 5. There have also been other items used from Epic, such as its Nanites, Ray Tracing, Path Tracing, and Lumen Tech, which have all been used to create such a realistic view that would have been a massive upgrade to the original game if we ever received a remake.

What Does This Unreal Engine 5 Clip of God of War Look Like, and Would It Have Been as Good as the Original?

Back in 2005, when the original God of War was released, graphics were still under development and were struggling to get themselves off the ground. After a few years, they have slowly improved to the point where they are basically picture-perfect and look next to real.

During this 1:11 clip, we can see a short glimpse of Greece as a rather odd-looking model of young Kratos walks around, taking in the view with its magnificent sunset. Throughout this short clip, there isn’t any form of combat or actual action taking place, except for Kratos walking around the small location that it is set in.

However, just from the small view that we see, it looks absolutely stunning, as the sun’s reflection is shining over the water that is below the overlook that Kratos is standing on, with the glare on the camera and the reflections in the shiny walls that are all around the location.

If God of War was developed with Unreal Engine 5 back in the day, it would have been a massive improvement to what it was, as the original version was created with Santa Monica’s own proprietary engine, which was all it had access to at the time.

Either way, it would have been an amazing experience that gamers would have spoken about for years, as it would have been a definite improvement from what was originally released. Although the new versions of God of War have stepped it up, their graphics are amazing, and if a remake is on the cards, it will most likely be done on Santa Monica’s engine rather than Unreal Engine 5.

If We Did Receive a God of War Remake, Would It Look and Feel as Good as the New Series of Games?

Sadly, there are no plans to remake the original God of War games.

At the moment, there are no official plans for a God of War remake, but if there were one in production, it would most likely be created using Santa Monica’s own engine and would look rather similar to the more recent games that have been releasing since 2018.

The two games in question, God of War and God of War Ragnarok, are two fantastic games that have been developed with care and love by Santa Monica. While also having a major amount of detail and accuracy when it comes to the multiple environments that you can come across.

But would the Santa Monica engine be able to create a realistic and faithful version of the original God of War games while also keeping the same tone and effects that the original games used to perfection?

Sadly, it is highly unlikely that the tone of the games would stay the same in regards to effects and graphics, as in the older games there was a slight orange glow effect to the games, which made them look slightly more historic rather than just a standard game, whereas the recent games have forgotten about that entirely and focused more on the details of the worlds themselves.

If Santa Monica did remake the original games, it would have to dial down the graphics slightly to focus more on the gameplay mechanics and effects that take place within the games, but this could work in its favor.
