The modern era of the Star Wars franchise has been pretty middling, to say the least as most of the offerings have been underwhelming for fans. The theatrical trilogy that started with The Force Awakens was highly divisive with fans not necessarily jiving with the choices made with their beloved characters from the original trilogy.

Apart from The Mandalorian and Andor, the Disney+ Star Wars shows have failed to reinvigorate the franchise. Its recent offering The Acolyte further diminished fans’ expectations from the once beloved IP. However, all that could change with the upcoming Skeleton Crew series as fans are impressed with its first trailer.
Jude Law’s Skeleton Crew Promises To Be A Refreshingly Earnest Star Wars Show

It has been a while since Star Wars has put out a theatrical film since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm has been heavily focused on its live-action shows since The Mandalorian but most of them have been frustratingly underwhelming. The Acolyte was a recent disappointment that criminally wasted the amazing potential it had.
The bar for Star Wars has never been lower than the current era and fans have been clamoring for something that would reinvigorate the franchise. There has been some anticipation for the upcoming Skeleton Crew series from Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts and its unique coming-of-age story featuring four children sounded very promising.
The first trailer for the show has been released and it looks like Star Wars is certainly doing something different than other recent entries. Fans on X are comparing the show to Stranger Things and The Goonies with respect to the exciting adventure that the kids go on and the earnest coming-of-age vibe. Here are some of the reactions,
This has Goonies vibes but in space. A huge step up from The Acolyte.

Star Wars desperately needs a big win and this new series could be the one that brings the franchise’s fans together back again. Jude Law is set to be the lead along with these promising young actors and the trailer certainly increases the anticipation for the show.

After the disappointing results of The Acolyte, Star Wars has yet another series coming up this year with Skeleton Crew. The show is co-created and executive produced by Jon Watts who is also directing some of the episodes. In an interview with Collider, the director revealed that the show is about a group of kids who are trying to return home after getting lost in the galaxy.
Watts further stated that the show does not require any prior knowledge of the Star Wars franchise to enjoy. However, loyal fans will get an added enjoyment with the show with all of its Easter eggs and references. He said,
It’s about a group of kids that find a mysterious secret on their planet and accidentally get lost out in the galaxy, and it’s the story about them trying to find their way back home,” he said. “You don’t need to have really any prior Star Wars knowledge to enjoy it. But if you do, you can enjoy it on many levels.
Skeleton Crew will star Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Jude Law, and Kerry Condon. The first trailer of the show was recently released at D23 and the eight-episode series will premiere on Disney+ on December 3, 2024
