While speaking in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, David Fincher revealed that Brad Pitt declined the lead role in Fincher’s action film, The Killer. The actor cited its excessive violence and mean-spirited nature as his reasons.

I’d originally been thinking of Brad back in 2008,” Fincher said. “But his response had been, ‘Eh, a little too nihilistic for me.’”

After directing four films, including The Social Network and Mank, which earned him Academy Award nominations for best director, David Fincher returned to The Killer. The film, despite featuring more on-screen violence than Fincher’s other works, is considered one of his more hopeful and less nihilistic movies.

This is the type of film I was salivating to do. There’s suspense and intrigue. A slow drip. I love that kind of movie. There’s just trying to understand the mind of a sociopath. I try and put together a lifespan, to where the character is now.

Apart from Michael Fassbender, the film also starred Tilda Swinton, Charles Parnell, Arliss Howard, Kerry O’Malley, Sophie Charlotte, Emiliano Pernía, and Endre Hules. Therefore, the film has a star-studded cast and it already ended up becoming one of Netflix’s more popular films of 2023.
