Rachel Weisz made her Marvel debut in 2021 with Black Widow as Melina. And having been a part of both the Bond and Bourne families, the actress has now mastered all the required skills there is and more to become the perfect spy. And her most recent appearance in the MCU movie is a testament to it, as it has swept the audiences off their feet. Even though Black Widow received somewhat of a lukewarm reaction from its audiences, there was one thing that caught people’s attention. Melina’s riff with her long-lost husband Alexei played by David Harbour, totally stole the show.

Speaking to Harpers Bazar, Weisz revealed that she is completely down for a spin-off keeping one of the most dysfunctional families of the MCU at the heart of it. And to watch Black Widow and her unique family’s dynamic unravel would truly be an intriguing concept.

Rachel Weisz Is Totally Down for a Melina-Alexei Spin Off!

After a considerable amount of begging and pleading, fans were at last granted a glimpse into Natasha Romanoff’s past. And thus, Black Widow was one of the most anticipated movies of 2021. The movie introduced three new key characters, Yelena Belova, Alexei Shostakov, and Melina Vostokoff. And that is where all the fun began. Besides, being an outrageously ridiculous set of parents to Natasha and Yelena, it was pretty evident from the film, that  Alexei and Melina were extraordinary lovers. Although the movie focused a considerable amount of time on the wild family of Black Widow, many audiences somehow ended up yearning for more including the actress Rachel Weisz

While speaking with Harper’s Bazaar she said,

“I’d be totally up for a spin-off,—I mean, in terms of a backstory, they [Melina and Alexie] didn’t see each other for 20 years, as you know from the film, but a lot of the stuff that we shot – a lot of everyone’s story didn’t make it into the movie because that’s what happens in film – but there’s a lot of film on the cutting room floor of Alexie and Melina’s love story. It’s a little Casablanca… They’re ridiculous, and madly in love.”

Turns out a lot of the portions focusing on the mad lovers ended up on the cutting room floor and the actress very much would like to birth a spin-off show based on the already available material that further delves into their dynamics as a “family”.

Will Melina Ever Come Back to the MCU?

As of the latest updates it has been confirmed that Alexei and Yelena will be making their return to the multiversal saga again with the highly anticipated upcoming movie Thunderbolts. While there is no official confirmation if Rachel Weisz will also be returning to the MCU, fans sure hope she does. While chatting with Collider the actress stated,

“I mean, it would be different for every actor, but for me, it was just for this film,”

While it is increasingly unlikely, that Melina would be included in the upcoming Thunderbolts given that the star-studded lineup has already been announced for the film. But that does not mean the fans would have to abandon all their hopes entirely of her return.
