The ongoing battle at Egghead Island is probably one of the biggest fights the One Piece world has ever seen because of the involvement of major characters like the Straw Hat Pirates, the Five Elders, Dr. Vegapunk, and Admiral Kizaru. It has been going on for a long time and is slowly moving towards its conclusion.

The battle has caused a lot of loss to both sides and, as of yet, has not been tilted in anyone’s favor. Nonetheless, it has become a big obstacle for the Straw Hat Pirates. There may be multiple reasons behind this battle, but the biggest one is a betrayal caused by one of Dr. Vegapunk’s satellites, which was the most unexpected thing in the arc.

The satellites and the Straw Hat Pirates were betrayed by York, who embodies Vegapunk’s aspect of greed. Initially, no one knew how she was able to betray the synchronized satellites, but a small loophole introduced by Eiichiro Oda made things clear.

York’s Betrayal Instigated the Egghead Island Battle

York might be the perfect representation of Vegapunk’s greed in One Piece. When the satellites visited Marie Geoise, all of them were shocked to see the behavior of the Celestial Dragons to the rest of the world. However, York was the only one who desired to be just like them and rule the world. This led to her betraying the satellites.

First of all, she informed the Five Elders that Vegapunk was studying the ancient history of the Void Century. When the World Government sent their agents to investigate York’s claims, they did not find anything, and York was forced to lock all of them and put the blame on Vegapunk. This led to the Five Elders declaring Vegapunk a criminal.

However, she did not stop there. Later on, she decided to steal a small portion of the unlimited source of energy, the Mother Flame, and give it to the Five Elders, which ultimately caused the destruction of the Lulusia Kingdom. After that, the World Government decided to apprehend Vegapunk and destroy all of his research except the Mother Flame.

The Loophole That Caused the Biggest Betrayal in One Piece

When it was revealed that York was the one who betrayed Vegapunk and the rest of the satellites, fans were shocked, as the minds of all the satellites are connected, and if York had thought about betraying them, it would have alerted the satellites. However, there is a small loophole, which was revealed in the latest chapter.

According to One Piece Chapter 1116, the satellites have the ability to stop synchronizing with their other counterparts. This allows them to withhold information and keep it a secret. Also, the stopping of the synchronization of one satellite doesn’t alert the others, making it a perfect loophole for York to betray Vegapunk and the Straw Hat Pirates.

However, Vegapunk still found out about the missing Mother Flame and how it was given to the World Government to use as fuel for the Ancient Weapon and destroy Lulusia. The only problem was that no one knew how Vegapunk knew about the stolen Mother Flame, as initially he was not aware of York’s betrayal.
