It sometimes takes being a little… feral to grab audiences’ attention in a streaming world where there are countless novel adaptations. The story follows an ambitious stay-at-home mother who begins to think she is turning into a dog after finding a tuft of fur on her neck.

Perfectly timed for Mother’s Day, the first official poster for Nightbitch has been revealed, and we can’t wait for the trailer to drop. The first look gave us an eerie promo still, giving us a glimpse into the bizarre transformation Adams’ character undergoes. Acquired by Searchlight Pictures, the movie promises to be a wild ride filled with humor, horror, and plenty of surprises.

The film is under the screenplay and direction of Marielle Heller, who previously directed projects such as 2018’s Can You Ever Forgive Me? and 2015’s The Diary of a Teenage Girl. Heller is an actress as well; she starred in the popular miniseries The Queen’s Gambit and the 2016 feature film Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

We learned from Variety that the film, which also stars Scoot McNairy (Monsters, Argo), will be released in theaters on December 6, 2024.

Nightbitch’s Poster Showcases Amy Adams in a New Light

The poster shows Amy Adams, the lead actress, as unkempt and irritable, with her head tilted off the camera. She appears a bit uneasy, and there is obvious dirt on her arms and face.

Nightbitch’s Marielle Heller, the director, praises Adams’ performance, describing it as “incredible”.

Adams’ role in the movie and the subject matter of the project are further enhanced by the bright and bold text “Motherhood is a b*tch”, which appears beneath the film’s title. It does not seem likely that too many details will be revealed at this time, given that the film is set to release in the winter.

But the book of the same name by Rachel Yoder, which the film is based on, may be worth reading for fans who are in a desperate search for specifics. During an interview with IndieWire, director Marielle Heller, 44, discussed Adams’ portrayal in Nightbitch.

“She’s incredible, I mean, we all know Amy Adams is incredible. She’s been nominated for a million Academy Awards. She’s amazing, but she really is special in this movie and I’m just so excited for the world to see her. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen from her before.”

Adams has portrayed darker themes in films before; The Woman in the Window, a 2021 film, features her as a tortured stay-at-home mother.

Given the actress’ impressive range and talent, we can say that she will undeniably bring depth and nuance to a role that is already garnering attention. So mark your calendars and prepare to see her as you have never seen her before in a film that promises to be equally terrifying and hilarious!

Nightbitch will start haunting you in theaters on December 6, 2024.
