Josh Hutcherson’s Five Nights at Freddy’s as per critics is a failure, not worth watching at all. But according to the fans of the already-hit video game and audiences, the movie couldn’t have been any better. Despite negative reviews, the movie ended up earning almost 15 times its production budget, which amounted to just $20 million apparently.
Seeing the immense success of the movie, it was recently confirmed that a sequel is in the works. Expected to start production in 2024, the news of the sequel spread like wildfire on social media, sending fans into a frenzy who couldn’t contain their excitement over the news.
Josh Hutcherson’s Five Nights at Freddy’s Sequel In Works
Five Nights at Freddy’s is based on the superhit video game series of the same name. The first movie was in development since 2015 and was released simultaneously in theatres and for streaming on Peacock in October 2023. Despite being blasted off by critics for being ‘ridiculous’, ‘nasty’, and ‘odd’, it was severely criticized on various fronts.
But much to the shock of these critics, it ended up earning over $296 million worldwide (via The Numbers) against a budget of just $20 million (via Deadline), almost making 15 times more in profits. The movie became production house Blumhouse’s highest-ever grossing film.
Given its immense success, the video game adaptation has a sequel being developed, with director Emma Tammi directing it as well (via The Hollywood Handle). While it will be beginning its production next year, the plot details haven’t been made public yet.
It is also not confirmed whether the old cast, including Josh Hutcherson would be returning for the sequel or not, or whether it would have an entirely new cast. While we wait for further information, fans are more than welcoming of the news.
Fans Excited After Five Nights at Freddy’s Sequel Conformation
Even though the video game adaptation was the subject of intense criticism by critics and film reviewers, the public was exceptionally pleased with the movie. Despite its 15X profit, the movie still has 30% on Rotten Tomatoes but 4.4 out of 5 on Google.
With its magnanimous profits, a sequel was definitely a given and now that the confirmation is received, fans have been expressing their joy over the news all over social media.

While the movie is in the works, it would be interesting to see if it is able to recreate its past glory or ends up being a disappointment. Since the movie hasn’t yet started production, it will be hard to say when it will be released.
Meanwhile, Five Nights at Freddy’s can be streamed on Peacock.
