The Official Xbox Podcast just dropped their latest episode and there is a lot to talk about for the future of the gaming console. Microsoft has been trying to diversify its kitty, acquiring several companies over the past few years with Activision Blizzard and Bethesda being two of the big names that kept popping up.
With these acquisitions, it was only a matter of time before titles from these companies found their way to Xbox Game Pass. Last year, Phil Spencer, CEO of Xbox had said they wouldn’t be on the service until next year, and that time has now arrived.
Xbox Users Will be Able to Enjoy Activision Blizzard Titles Soon with Their Subscription
Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond, Xbox President, and Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Game Studios, offered various insights on where they see the future of Xbox going. When asked by Tina Amini about 1st party games and Xbox, Matt spoke about how games can now be bigger than a single platform. He went on to explain the core principles they have outlined for Xbox.
First, all of our games will be on the Xbox platform. Second, all of our games will go onto Game Pass on day one. And third, we know that Game Pass will only be available on Xbox
Sarah Bond followed Matt in emphasizing the aspect of all Xbox games being on Game Pass. This led her to the big announcement: Activision Blizzard games will now be coming to the subscription service. And the first game is sure to get people talking – Diablo 4 – set to be available on March 28th.
Diablo 4 has been met with mixed reviews on release, and fans have been saying it is a step down from the greatness that was Diablo 3. The addition of Diablo 4 could mean we will see other new Activision Blizzard games added to the roster and could be in line with the rumor of a new Call of Duty slated for October.
Bond went on to state:
It’s all part of our commitment to make Xbox, the Xbox experience, and the games that we build as widely available as possible.
Xbox Players were Teased Last Year of Activision Blizzard Games appearing on Xbox Game Pass
In October of last year, Phil Spencer stated that Activision Blizzard games were not going to be on Xbox Game Pass anytime soon. He had stated the regulatory process had taken too long and Xbox wasn’t able to work with Activision Blizzard on back catalog work. While most saw that as negative news, others saw it for what it was: a waiting game. At some point, these games would be on the service and that waiting game is about to end very soon.
With the addition of Diablo 4 to Xbox Game Pass, it may be that we will see the addition of other new games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and many others. Which games would you like to see appear in the catalog? Be sure to tell us in the comments below!
