When it comes to the gaming industry, many developers like Activision, Blizzard, Square Enix, and more work tirelessly on games for them to eventually fail or succeed. Sadly, there are more failures than anything else, according to some Reddit users who listed quite a few different games that were all cancelled by developers, even though they could have been great games.
Over the years, we have seen plenty of games release and ultimately fail not long after, and most gamers will immediately be able to name a select few that were so awful that they were cancelled practically the day after they were released, but according to these Reddit users, there are plenty more games that we haven’t even thought of.
What Games Have Been Given up on by Developers Like Activision Blizzard, Square Enix, and More?
To be fair, many of the games below were sadly cancelled, not just because the developers decided they weren’t good enough, but because of issues like lack of money, lack of interest by the gaming community, and just general issues within the gaming community that caused a shutdown. It is sad to say that many of these games left us too soon.
It is very rare to see a developer who hasn’t had a failure of a game, as each developer in the gaming industry has had at least one game that has let them down. No matter how big the developer, there will always be the potential for failure, and companies like Activision Blizzard, Square Enix, Konami, SEGA, Nintendo, and more are no exception.
One game that will always come to mind when talking about failed games is, sadly, Anthem, which was originally developed by Bioware. When it comes to Bioware, it usually has a rather positive response to its games, especially the Knights of the Old Republic franchise, but Anthem was sadly the exception, as it was met with a mainly negative response due to glitches and poor gameplay.
This mainly failed due to bad development, but according to these Reddit users, if the developers had focused more of their time and effort on creating a working game rather than on minor details that no one would care about, then it could have been the next big thing, but sadly, this didn’t happen.
However, this isn’t the worst game that these Reddit users have pointed out, as there are some who have mentioned Crystal Dynamics Marvel’s Avengers, which sadly could have been an amazing game but in the end fell short and was just a bad live service game that hoped gamers would just throw money at it.
Even though the Marvel’s Avengers game did have a lot of redeeming factors, like an interesting campaign, decent combat, and a wide variety of characters, it sadly fell short on relying on players to repeat activities, grind for gear, and pay money for cosmetics and DLC content, which would bring with it new characters and locations.
Unfortunately, these aren’t the only games that have sadly fallen apart after release thanks to poor development, but it’s not just the developers fault in some cases, as some games sadly didn’t get the attention they required to survive, leading to their eventual downfall.
The main point of this Reddit post is the fact that developers have sadly let down plenty of different franchises over the years, whether it be Marvel-related, Star Wars-related, Outriders, Wild Hearts, and more, all of which had hope but sadly didn’t have what was needed to survive in today’s economy.
At the moment, the gaming community is losing faith in developers. This Reddit post is proof that so many good franchises have sadly been left to fall apart. For the gaming industry to survive, gamers will have to support these bold choices from developers, and developers need to put more faith in their games rather than just quitting when the going gets tough.
