Xbox Developer Direct has just gone live and Square Enix developers just gave an update on their upcoming title Visions of Mana. The Main Series Producer of the Mana series at Square Enix, Masaru Oyamada gave gamers a sneak peek of Visions of Mana.

Last year, Square Enix announced their plans during the Final Fantasy 14‘s Fan Fest celebration event to bring more of their upcoming titles to the Microsoft console. Now, Square Enix is bringing a brand new title from the Mana series to Xbox consoles, as the relationship between the two giants is only going up.

Oyamada revealed that the new installment in the Mana series is the first new installment for the Xbox console in over 15 years. The Mana series was said to have begun back in 1991 as a “Final Fantasy Adventure”.

The series is said to have included all the “elements of a true Mana game” including an emotional narrative, the legendary Mana Sword, memorable music, and a weapon-based battle system among others. The franchise has had 17 titles so far and Square Enix is now said to bring all of their expertise to make the game a unique title in the franchise.

The game is said to include “vibrant environments” and an open world where “nature and the elements live in harmony” and several returning monsters as well. Koichi Ishii, the creator of the Mana series also joined the stream. Ishii mentioned having worked on designing the monsters for the Mana games since the beginning.

Koichi Ishii mentioned having worked on the implementation and transformation of enemies in the game. Ishii went on to mention how the monsters would not just look adorable but also pack enough frightening elements so players must keep an eye out on the monster’s expressions during encounters.

It was also revealed that the game will include a pet, Pikuls, to traverse the open-world map. The game is also said to come packed with a tracklist consisting of 100 songs. The background music is also said to change and update as per the scenario in a specific scene in a game.

The game’s combat is also updated to include aerial combat to include better physical attacks and magic attacks mid-air. Apart from this, the game’s Elementals will assist players during battles, using specialized weapons.

The presentation ended with Oyamada mentioning that it’s the first time the Mana series is coming to Xbox and more information will be shared soon. The title is said to come out during Summer this year.

By bringing the first game of the Mana franchise to Xbox consoles, Square Enix showcased the improved relationship between the two giants as many more Square Enix titles are now expected to come to the console.
