The Boys Season 4 is almost here, and the excitement is over the roof. Amazon’s breakout superhero dark parody series has kept viewers hooked since 2019, and they are looking forward to more. Especially what Antony Starr’s psychotic Homelander has in store for Season 4.
However, there are other performances on the show that have often been overlooked. And one of them is Chace Crawford’s The Deep, an aquatic superhero in Homelander’s team who is often ridiculed for his fish-like abilities.
Fans are just beginning to notice how amazingly the actor deals with the psychological issues along with the humiliation the character faces in almost every episode.
The Deep is one of the best characters in The Boys
Marine superheroes have long been the butt of comic world jokes. Whether it is DC’s Aquaman or Marvel’s Namor, they have been ridiculed for their powers and appearance, until Jason Momoa changed that image for the better in the Justice League. The Boys‘ Deep is a reflection of those earlier tropes, when heroes like him had very few fans.
Amazon Prime recently released the latest section of Deep Thoughts With The Deep, with Chace Crawford indulging in a hilarious thought-provoking performance as his character:
The Deep is a complex character who lets his doubts and insecurities get the better of him. He is neither good nor evil, just immensely self-centered. He follows a grey path in order to feel accepted by his team and the media, which often leads to embarrassing and downright pathetic moments, sometimes even committing evil acts.
Crawford aces every aspect of the character, perfectly bringing out how confused and fickle-minded the superhero is, trying to earn back his “superhero” status.
Fans acknowledge Chace Crawford’s underrated performance in The Boys
Whether The Deep will be acknowledged as a superhero is yet to be seen in the upcoming The Boys Season 4. However, the show’s fans have come to recognize Crawford’s immense talent. A couple of them took to social media affirming that The Deep is indeed one of the most overlooked performances on the show.
This is just one gal’s opinion but Chace Crawford as The Deep is one of the most slept on television performances of the last 20 years.
He is *so good* in this role and when you remember that he’s usually acting opposite nothing, it’s even more impressive. #TheBoys https://t.co/Sp6Q9ExUbv

He plays a character that you are supposed to hate and makes him endearing and a bit of a goof to watch. He tries to get redemption but he falls one step short and always ends up back in the shithole where he started. Chace Crawford can balance dramatic and comedic scenes nicely.

The way his character acts so serious and is treated like a joke, is such a great acting choice by Chace

I think part of it is that he plays the character 100% straight.
He doesn't try and, like, do the sarcastic self awareness so many inherently goofy or pathetic characters get portrayed with now.— Dr. Gremlinoid (Monster Energy Gooning Recovery) (@dr_gremlinoid) June 9, 2024
The Deep is perhaps one of the most complex characters in the series, and the way Crawford plays him makes the character even more entertaining. And the fans seem to agree in unison, that no one could have possibly played the part better than him.
However, this is not the first time Crawford has dealt with superhero stuff. He was once in the running to play Captain America back when the MCU was still young. However, he wouldn’t even get the chance as he was filming Gossip Girl at the time, and hence rejected.
