Tom Hanks has made the whole world his fans due to his insane versatility which has proven his potential as an actor. Widely regarded as an American cultural icon, he transitioned from a shy guy to becoming America’s favorite. Given that he can easily pull off any role he gets into, there is something crazy going on the internet.
A picture of the veteran is circulating online in which he is seemingly portraying the role of prominent civil rights activist, Martin Luther King Jr. in a Netflix biopic. However, this whole hoax is happening due to an AI-fueled trend.
AI Makes Tom Hanks the Face of Netflix Biopic on Martin Luther King Jr
The Internet went on a rampage when Tom Hanks‘s AI-generated picture was circulated in which he portrayed the role of the late Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK). In the picture, it seemed to have mentioned that Netflix is producing a biopic on the late activist.
Wolfsheadonline even claimed that the film is to be helmed by Steven Spielberg who has been working day and night to make this project, with the director only having eyes on the veteran actor to play the iconic role.
However, this has led to a major rampage online since many objected to a white actor portraying one of the most influential black personalities.
Internet Reacted to Fake Netflix Biopic Featuring Tom Hanks
An X user @Southside_Gunn tweeted the AI-generated picture which garnered comments from several other online commentators. Many chimed in to express their anger over the fake casting since the practice of taking white people to portray blackface is not right at all.
Check out the tweets below.

Meanwhile, few were looking forward to the actor playing the role since no one could judge his insane acting skills.

However, many were quick to understand that this was AI-generated with the project is nothing but fake. Many even pointed out that the picture appeared to resemble Will Smith. Even the Splash actor has addressed whitewashing in the entertainment industry. Not only that, but he was quick to point out his work by sharing,
“My experience was common: History was mostly written by white people about white people like me, while the history of Black people — including the horrors of Tulsa — was too often left out. Until relatively recently, the entertainment industry, which helps shape what is history and what is forgotten, did the same. That includes projects of mine.”
He continued,
“I knew about the attack on Fort Sumter, Custer’s last stand and Pearl Harbor but did not know of the Tulsa massacre until last year, thanks to an article in The New York Times.”
While this project turned out to be nothing but an AI-generated bluff, there are already movies like 2014’s Selma, 2020’s MLK/FBI, and 2018’s I Am MLK Jr. released to honor the personality.
