While these titles have fierce competition from other contenders for the Game of the Year award, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Resident Evil 4, they are the favorites to take the big prize home.

Alan Wake 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 have already come out on top at The Golden Joysticks. Alan Wake 2 won the Critics’ Choice Award, and Baldur’s Gate 3 won Ultimate Game of the Year. Alan Wake 2 has been nominated for Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, Best Narrative, Best Action Adventure Game, Best Game Direction, Best Performance (Melani Liburd), as well as Game of the Year at The Game Awards.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is an RPG that has received nominations in a few different categories than Alan Wake 2 at The Game Awards but has also received eight nominations. It has been a packed year with some amazing video game releases, and while the most coveted of The Game Awards, Game of the Year, has some of the most popular and highly positively reviewed titles, it is still missing a few heavyweights, including Bethesda’s Starfield. It was released on Xbox and PC, and while it got good reviews, it only got a single nomination.

Not only that, Starfield is also left out of Game of the Year nominations and has only been able to make its place in the Best RPG category, and even that will not be an easy one to grab. Starfield is facing strong competition from popular games like Lies of P, Final Fantasy XVI, and more. Starfield not landing a spot in the GOTY nominees is obviously a disappointment for Bethesda.

Several other well-performing and loved games also did not get a nod for Game of the Year nominations at The Game Awards. These include Final Fantasy XVI, which is a surprise to many, and Street Fighter 6, which also failed despite its high review scores from fans and critics alike.

No indie titles such as Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Stars were on the list as well, which have been well-received by gamers. Even the best-selling game of the year, Hogwarts Legacy, missed out, which is kind of wild.

Alan Wake 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 have been making waves with the most number of nominations, but they are still going to have to battle it out with games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which was a massive hit when launched, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which received rave reviews.

It is going to be a fierce competition, and it will not be easy for any title to grab the GOTY. The winners at The Game Awards across categories will be announced on December 7, and voting is now open.
