During October, gamers are going to be very busy as there are numerous games releasing throughout the month, but one that has many gamers excited to grab their hands on is Alan Wake 2. This is because players have been waiting many years for a sequel to this fantastic franchise, but for some players, this sequel will be a little lacklustre. As for those who will be playing Alan Wake 2 on an Xbox Series S, there will be a feature missing that could change their opinion on the game.

Over the years, gamers have been treated to a lot of fantastic features that have escalated the way we play games, but due to these features, gamers have also begun to expect high-quality gaming with all of these features within each game. When Alan Wake 2 releases players on an Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, they will be able to use a performance mode that allows them to reach 60FPS within Alan Wake 2.

For those who use this “solid performance mode“, they will be able to utilise 60FPS at the cost of visual quality within the game, but this change isn’t necessarily a big impact as the game will still look amazing even with the slight visual changes. The unfortunate situation is that anyone who wants to play Alan Wake 2 will be unable to access this “solid performance mode” and will only be able to play Alan Wake 2 at 30FPS.

This is quite sad news, as many fans who have been eagerly awaiting Alan Wake 2 and have been looking forward to a 60FPS experience will either have to be an Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 owner to achieve this experience. At the moment, there are no plans for the solid performance mode to be brought onto Xbox Series S versions of Alan Wake 2, but for some gamers, this might be a sign to look towards upgrading their consoles to a higher-grade version.

Why Doesn’t The Xbox Series S Have This Performance Mode For Alan Wake 2?

Alan Wake 2 isn't the first and won't be the last to lose out on better FPS and graphics due to underpowered consoles.

As stated above, as game development moves forward, games will require stronger consoles to run them, as newer games will have better graphics and faster frame rates that will only be usable on next-generation technology. This is an unfortunate circumstance, as consoles like the Xbox Series S are purposefully designed to be less powerful than the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5, so that they can be sold at a cheaper price.

Even though this seems like a logical solution for console developers, it can also become an issue for game developers as they will have to meet the requirements for two different consoles throughout their development phases. while also having to ensure that this sort of situation doesn’t happen where one version of the game is considered worse than the other due to the game’s requirements to run it on certain consoles.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that a game has suffered due to the restrictions of the Xbox Series S, and as game development brings in new technology and better features, it will slowly get left behind. Alan Wake 2 will still be available to play on Xbox Series S, but those who were hoping for a full 60FPS experience are going to be disappointed.
