Alan Wake 2 is said to give players a feel of the nightmare that the game’s protagonist goes through, with an unsettling experience, as revealed by Sam Lake, Creative director of Remedy Entertainment. Apart from being a survival horror game, gamers will get a psychological horror experience when they traverse the Dark Place in Alan Wake 2.

Lake explains the psychological horrors that Alan Wake experiences are a result of Wake being caught in a coma for 13 years, where he tries to “write the story to escape”. Lake also confirmed that there will be elements of humor in the game to maintain the sanity of gamers before they’re thrown back into the horror bits. As impressive as the game looked in the official trailer, it’s the mechanics used in the game between the light and dark places that will have the gamers gasping.

Alan Wake 2‘s live-action trailer shown at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live last month renewed everyone’s interest in the sequel. While the first game wasn’t lacking in horror, the sequel seems to have pushed the limits to the extreme. There’s a section in the trailer that shows Alan Wake discovering a fourth-wall-breaking sequence where he finds himself in a talk show with a certain Mr. Door. This was shown as a live-action sequence and blended in with the gameplay perfectly.

It’s the dark side of the game that is believed to show Wake’s confused mental state, where voices whisper to him from the shadows. The scribbles and graffiti on the walls and the environment will continue to make gamers sweat as they proceed through the game. One of the impressive mechanics in the game was when Wake was shown to have the ability to alter the world around him as he moved through it. Wake will be seen with the ability to take light from specific sections of the world and use that to light up the darker sections, helping him light the way forward.

Another feature that Alan Wake will be seen using in the game is how he can head back to his writing desk, check the story’s progress, and use prompts to change things. Wake will be seen collecting these prompts as he moves around, which he can use to change his environment to what suits him best. These mechanics in the game will no doubt impress gamers as they learn to use them and progress further.

One of the developers of the game, Thomas Puha, also came out to reveal how the Development team behind Alan Wake 2 was just around 130 people, and that it took them about 4 years to complete development. This is quite impressive, as the trailer promises a game that’s bound to be a classic in the series add in the impressive mechanics and it gets even better than the original. The delay in the game had earlier disappointed gamers everywhere, and hence Puha felt it was important to share this bit of detail about the dev team behind the game.

The sequel comes out towards the end of next month, on the 27th of October and fans who have been waiting patiently are sure to be treated with Alan Wake 2.
