Taylor Swift has repeatedly expressed her complicated relationship with streaming platforms. Making music out of pure talent the singer has often urged her fans to purchase physical media over streaming her songs on online platforms. Repeatedly removing her music from Spotify and Apple Music, Swift tried making her point.
Later on, renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan joined the same movement, while requesting his fans and audiences to invest in physical media over streaming platforms. Holding back from releasing Oppenheimer on online platforms, Nolan appeared walking in Swift’s footsteps.

Taylor Swift’s Complicated Relation With Streaming Platforms
The Love Story singer Taylor Swift has undoubtedly been one of the most renowned pop singers of this era. With most of her songs reaching out to millions, Swift even made headlines for her skyrocketing sales. But a major part of that sale relied on her music never being available on streaming platforms.
Having a fraught history with streaming platforms, Taylor Swift has often refrained from releasing her music online. Famously removing her music from Spotify in December 2014, the singer later announced in 2017 that she wouldn’t be releasing Reputation online, for at least a week after the album hit stores.
“Music is changing so quickly, and the landscape of the music industry itself is changing so quickly, that everything new, like Spotify, all feels to me a bit like a grand experiment. And I’m not willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates… And I just don’t agree with perpetuating the perception that music has no value and should be free.” Swift told Yahoo.
Keeping her music away from streaming platforms for more than a week after its release, Taylor Swift tries to urge her fans to buy physical media, in that way. But she isn’t the only one in the industry who has issues with streaming platforms.
Christopher Nolan Urged His Fans to Purchase Physical Media
Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan, has previously expressed his complicated relationship with streaming platforms. Expressing concerns over the rising trend of streaming-only releases, Nolan emphasized the potential risks and the need to preserve films through physical media.
Clarifying his remarks with The Washington Post, during a screening of Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan urged audiences to purchase Blu-ray versions instead of waiting for its release on streaming platforms. Calling streaming platforms “evil” sources, Nolan expressed his sheer disagreement with streaming sites.
“There is a danger, these days, that if things only exist in the streaming version they do get taken down, they come and go.”
Therefore, during an interview with Variety, he urged fans to purchase Oppenheimer on Blu-ray to ensure “no evil streaming service can come steal it from you”. Prioritizing the quality of home releases for his films, Nolan affirmed his dedication to preparing the Blu-ray version of Oppenheimer meticulously, so that audiences can enjoy a theatre-like viewing experience even at home.
