When Until Dawn was released in 2015, it instantly became one of the best interactive horror titles to be released that year. Supermassive Games had a bit of a lightning-in-a-bottle moment, as even without much marketing, the game quickly became highly acclaimed.

Now, nearly a decade after its launch on the PlayStation 4, Sony is bringing the experience to the PC and PlayStation 5 with improved graphics and some other changes. However, this re-release isn’t going to come cheap, which is annoying many gamers.

While it’s great to bring an old IP to modern times by remaking the experience, the studio must also consider that many people have already played the game. A title that has been available for nearly a decade should be priced accordingly. It seems Supermassive and Sony disagree with this, as the leaked price tag for Until Dawn’s remake is making waves, but not in a good way.

When the remake was first announced, the studio stated it had rebuilt the visuals using Unreal Engine 5 to vastly improve the title’s visuals. However, when gamers first saw the enhancements, they were far from impressed. Many even said that the game doesn’t look all that different than the 2015 release!

So, given this criticism, the hefty rumored price tag of $59.99 will raise many eyebrows. Even with improved gameplay mechanics and a new prologue, people are not ready to pay full price for a game that’s been out for a decade.

Another comment states that the PS Plus version available right now for the PS5 runs at 60 FPS, which is more than enough for a fun experience.

While some may consider the improvements made to the game worthy of this price tag, it still seems a bit much for a game that has been available for a decade. Here’s hoping BillBil-kun is incorrect this time.

Fans of Horror Games Are Spoiled for Choice

While the price may not be something all gamers are on board with, many horror fans might consider it a worthwhile investment. Several titles are launching in the genre this year, with the next eagerly awaited title being the remake of Silent Hill 2. While fans have not been entirely impressed with what was shown at the State of Play, the producer has reassured them of the intended goal.

Silent Hill 2’s remake will faithfully recreate the original experience while showcasing James’ story in a new light. Some fans took issue with the portrayal of the character, saying he looks younger than the original and also appears to be more lively. Both of these qualities added to the character’s pathos, which has struck a chord with fans.

The producer has said the team also considered how to approach Pyramid Head’s appearance. He stated that while it is commonly accepted that anything big can be grotesque, the team wanted to impart a more menacing quality to the enemy.
