The new Mean Girls star, Christopher Briney, doesn’t seem to have a thorough grasp of the original movies. Released in 2004, the original film gained immense success and attained iconic status in pop culture. The quirky dialogues from the movie have evolved into some of the internet’s most beloved memes. However, as the cast of the 2024 musical adaptation sat down with Buzzfeed to react to some of these memes, one of the cast members panicked upon not understanding their narrative.
Mean Girls Star Feared Getting Canceled Due to Beyonce and Lady Gaga
The cast of the new Mean Girls recently sat down for an interview with Buzzfeed UK as they reacted to the popular memes based on the 2004 movie. Christopher Briney, who takes on the role of Aaron Samuels in the 2024 film, however, was not able to understand some of these.
When a meme featuring Lady Gaga and Beyonce from their Telephone music video came up, the actor freaked out. The meme included Karen and Regina’s conversation from the original movie, which said, “I can’t go out *cough* *cough* I’m sick,” followed by Regina’s response, “BOO YOU WH*RE!”
The Dalíland star was neither aware of the song nor the dialogues mentioned in the meme and asked his co-star Reneé Rapp if the context of the meme had something to do with the music video. “I don’t know,” he said when asked if he recognized the people in the meme.
As Rapp explained to him that the meme features Lady Gaga and Beyonce from their famous song, he freaked out, saying, “I’m like sweating! Am I canceled? Is this it for me?” The actor seemed panicked as earlier in the interview, he also failed to recognize one of the members of the pop boy One Direction. Rapp, however, assured him that no such thing would happen.
Christopher Briney is Happy He Did Not Have to Sing in the Movie
Portrayed by Jonathan Bennett in the original film, Christopher Briney takes on the role of Aaron Samuels in the 2024 musical teen comedy Mean Girls. Adapted from the Broadway musical of the same name, the movie does not feature Aaron with a significant musical number.
Briney is glad that his character did not have to sing in the movie. “I’m grateful that he didn’t have a number,” the 25-year-old actor said in an interview with Digital Spy. The Summer I Turned Pretty star shared that he has not done such roles before, so he was a bit skeptical about it.
However, he also shared, “I know the work that I do,” and that he has put in efforts to understand his character and has tried to give his best performance in the movie. While he did not have a music number for himself, the actor did join his co-stars, Reneé Rapp and Angourie Rice, playing Regina and Cady, respectively, in the movie.
Mean Girls (2024) is playing in theatres.
