A Mean Girls Joke Was Very Upsetting For Linsey Lohan

Lindsay Lohan appeared in the original 2004 teen comedy Mean Girls alongside Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried, Tim Meadows, Ana Gasteyer, Amy Poehler, and Tina Fey and co. The original comedy was rebooted with a musical touch-up in 2024 with the directors Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. Lohan joined the New York premiere of the movie (spoiler alert: she appears in a cameo), and one joke has offended the actor.

Lohan’s representative exclusively told People that Megan Thee Stallion’s dialogue while appearing in social media montages made fun of Angourie Rice’s character Cady— played by Lohan in the original movie. “Y2K fire crotch is back,” Stallion commented on her Christmas-themed talent show outfit.

Seemingly, it was more upsetting for Lohan as it may have been a reference to a 2006 paparazzi video where Brandon Davis called the Just My Luck actor a “fire crotch” after saying “I think she’s worth about $7 million, which means she’s really poor. It’s disgusting,” (via E!Online)

“Lindsay was very hurt and disappointed by the reference in the film,” a representative of Lohan told the outlet.  For the actor, it was in bad taste, and her co-star Fey, who also appeared in the high school musical reprising her role, has not addressed the joke as of yet.

Fey has not only appeared in the movie, but she was also the writer and producer of the $36 million movie. While writing the film, Paramount was keen on bringing some original characters into the new movie as Fey told Entertainment Weekly about the surprise cameo of Lohan.

“Paramount was like, ‘Can you get any of the original ladies? And I was like, ‘I can’t fit five people in.’ I felt like if I could only get one person as a surprise, the original movie is really Lindsay’s movie. As great as they all are, she’s the heart of that movie. And I thought, well, what could she do? I didn’t think [she should] play a teacher. I was trying to think of something that you wouldn’t expect,” Fey said of the 37-year-old.

Fey went on to add, “And just to have her do that late in the movie, it also feels like it comes.” However, she was hoping that “at a time where fans weren’t expecting one more little surprise.” It also lets “her be smart, which Cady is.”

The 2024 Mean Girls stars Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, Auliʻi Cravalho, and Christopher Briney in the lead and is currently showing in theaters.
