Doing justice to a franchise when it finally makes it to the big screen is a challenge many have accepted but failed to conquer. Fallout has accepted it like them and as far as the trailer is concerned, it may fulfill what is required of it. The trailer dropped yesterday and the world is already talking about its resemblance to the game.
Originally announced in 2020, the series was created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy starring Ella Purnell, Walter Goggins, Aaron Moten, and more who’ll be surviving the post-apocalyptic world with a touch of grit and violence. One of the factions, Brotherhood of Steel has already been showcased in the trailer while it is unknown whether more factions will appear. It indeed is a wonderful world there.
Fallout TV Show Captures The Game’s Elements Beautifully
The series narrative began a couple of centuries after the apocalypse happened and similar to the game, small settlements can be seen active in a world that has become a wasteland. It does feel like Mad Max in there but at least people are not seen running around for human blood bags for transfusion.
As Brotherhood of Steel has been a part of every game, it didn’t come as a surprise the faction made it to the show. However, the emphasis appears to have been on one of its squire named Maximus. Although the faction’s core focus is on the preservation of advanced tech and its utility in the game, Maximus joined it to “hurt the people who hurt,” him. This could be different.
Vault-Tec is working just fine like in the games, protecting the population of the United States. Like the Brotherhood of Steel, it too is pivotal to the Fallout narrative. Every Vault in the game carries its own rule, some are creepy as hell. For example in Vault 111, people would elect the person they hate the most, just to sacrifice the person after the tenure ends. It isn’t clear which Vault Lucy belongs to, let’s just hope it is not 111.
It’s A New Beginning In The Same World
Jonathan was the perfect fit for the series as Fallout 3 “devoured” almost a year of his life. He says it “derailed” his career but little did he know it would bring him to this stage. This clears the resemblance the TV show and the game share. It was always there in the mind, and all it needed was a canvas to lay it out. It paints a pretty good picture.
Also, one thing the audience will get to see in the TV show is the mentality of Vault dwellers and what it is like to be one of them. For starters, it will capture Lucy’s journey from being one naive girl to a “little killer.” “She’s essentially a newborn baby,” says Jonathan Nolan about the character.
Fallout is slated to air on Amazon Prime on 11 April 2024, a day before it was planned initially. The trailer captures the franchise’s essence beautifully, it remains to be seen how true it is to the show when it arrives.
