Fallout is one of the most popular IPs among the masses. Beginning as an isometric RPG, the IP has significantly evolved from its initial days. The TV Show was announced in 2020, following the trend of other media avenues being explored for gaming IPs.
The TV show is all set to release on April 12 and got a trailer recently. A press conference was also held alongside it, where the makers addressed many questions the media posed about the upcoming TV show, its timeline, scope, et cetera. Moreover, the conference also saw the panelists talking about how the TV show intends to keep the video game flavor intact.
How the Fallout TV Show began life
In the press conference, the panelists touched on the entire lifecycle of the video game adaptation. The panel included creators Graham Wagner and Jonathan Nolan, screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Bethesda’s Todd Howard, and cast members Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins.
Nolan spoke about how Fallout 3 was a title that the individual thoroughly enjoyed, keeping him occupied for an entire year. He also spoke about how he then had lunch with Bethesda boss Todd Howard, and the two talked about the potential of a TV show based on the series’ universe.
After the two had their lunch together, they walked out with a handshake deal where both parties agreed to produce a TV show based on the TV show. Notably, since the agreement was in the very early stages, the specifics were not decided, and there was a lot of work to materialize the idea into something tangible, but that was the birth of the TV show.
Where the Fallout TV Show Will fall in the Fallout Series Timeline
In the press conference, co-creator Graham Wagner addressed the question about the approach the TV show is taking and how it doesn’t focus on a particular game but instead on the world of IP.
Answering the question, Wagner stated that:
It’s set in the world of Fallout, but it’s a new story that comes after the events we’ve seen. The show is built on 25 years of creativity and thinking and building, and we thought the best thing to do was to continue that versus retread it because that’s what has worked with Fallout over the years
So, it is most certainly good news for Fallout fans, mainly because the TV show is confirmed to be canon in the game’s timeline. Since there hasn’t been a new video game in the series in a long time, fans would love to see Vault 111 jumpsuits in full glory when the show finally drops its first episode on April 12.
