Fans of the upcoming Fallout TV show will be delighted to see that several on-set images have been released ahead of the series debut on April 12th, 2024. This leads to the question of whether the series will be utilizing the game storylines as source material, or whether it will have a completely new storyline written for the screen.

Given the pedigree of the team comprised of Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, creators of the highly successful Westworld series, fans are certainly looking forward to seeing the adaptation brought to the screen for the very first time. However, with this level of excitement comes a certain level of expectation, much like fans of The Last of Us had for that series which premiered this year.

What Do We Know About the Fallout TV Series?

There may be little detail available on the actual storyline at the time of writing, but Jonathan Nolan and Todd Howard spoke to Vanity Fair about the upcoming series. Nolan confirmed that it would feature social and economic divisions which feature prominently in the game, and that it would also retain some of its ‘morbid humor’.

Howard went on to state that this was no direct re-telling of any of the specific games and that although there were several ideas pitched, he wanted to see more of a unique story told. So with this, we can expect some artistic license in terms of what the storyline may be given that it won’t be a direct adaptation of the specific game.

As expected the Amazon Prime show based on the highly successful post-apocalyptic RPG game series features the famous blue and yellow vault suits, which can be seen from the latest on-set pictures adorning Ella Purnell for her character Lucy and Kyle McLachlan who is set to play her father, Overseer Hank.

Perhaps one of the most striking images released by Prime Video is that of Walton Goggins who is confirmed to be playing a ghoul in the series. Whilst his disturbing look may remind many of a zombie, the damage to his skin and facial features comes from exposure to the radiation of the post-apocalyptic landscape.

Walton Goggins is almost unrecognisable as one of the mutated marauders of the wasteland.

Fans of the Fallout games will know all about the ghoul characters as they have been featured prominently in all the Fallout titles to date, and these mutated characters have seen several variations throughout the various installments. However, it has been revealed that Goggins’ character survives as a ruthless bounty hunter and hides something of a shady past.

A favorite for many of the fans will no doubt be the sight of the Power Armor and looking at it, it does appear to be accurate in comparison to the Fallout games. What remains to be seen is whether the armor will utilize a fusion core, which will deplete over time staying completely loyal to the source material.

As expected the reaction from fans on seeing these images has been one of excitement, but many have urged caution stating that it can’t just be style over substance;

“They look pretty game accurate, but it can’t just be able to the look, it has to have substance.” – @uncensoredcheff

“Looks good visually, if these are from a trailer, I havent seen it. But the style points to the costume and set peeps.” – @GothicFarmWife

“Shots look good and I love the practical power armor. I will remain cautiously optimistic!” – @MLGains

However, as with most things these days you can’t please everyone, and many so-called ‘fans’ are already denouncing the series as being ‘woke,’ simply because it has a female lead. It’s a sad assessment of the Fallout TV show, when there hasn’t even been a trailer released and unfortunately a telling statement of current society.

Whilst there may be very little known about what direction the storyline of the Fallout TV show will take, we know that there is plenty of material to choose from, and given the calibre of the production team, fans are confident the series is in very capable hands. From the reaction to the latest on-set pictures from the upcoming show, the majority of fans cannot wait to see it come to life on TV screens in April.
