After the epic box-office failures this year by the DC Universe, fans have been hoping that the upcoming Aquaman 2 could seriously save the DC Universe. And considering the massively stunning and unanticipated success of the first installment from the Aquaman franchise, this dream of fans just might end up coming true if the soon-to-be-released film is helmed in the utmost perfect manner like the first movie and includes all the required drama.
With the recent release of an ad promo for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom shared by an official fan and news account for the DCU and DC Studios on X, it seems that the much-required drama will be there in the movie after Amber Heard’s Mera was spotted screaming in a blink-and-you-miss-it moment in the trailer, slyly confirming the death of one major character.

While the first trailer of Aquaman 2 didn’t show much in store for Amber Heard’s Mera, a new promo featuring a rapid-fire series of scenes with blink-and-you-miss-it moments has suggested that some serious tragedy awaits in the soon-to-be-released sequel.
In the ad trailer posted on X, Black Manta is shown as saying:
“I’m gonna kill Aquaman [and] destroy everything he holds dear.”
Following his statement, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman was seen kneeling over someone lying on the ground. This reaction was followed by a blink-and-you-miss-it moment of Mera screaming.
Since the upcoming film will be showing Momoa’s Arthur Curry completely turning into a family man with a newborn son cum King of Atlantis, fans initially speculated that the person Curry is bending over could be his and Mera’s son.
However, after closer observation, it was noticed that the person in Curry’s lap is evidently wearing a black cap—something that is a part of Curry’s father aka Temuera Morrison’s Thomas Curry’s signature outfit.
Because of these facts, it might be seemingly confirmed that Arthur Curry just might be losing his father in a devastating situation with Black Manta apparently going for the King of Atlantis’ family, since he said he will destroy ‘everything he holds dear’.

Judging from fans’ displeased reactions, it seems unlikely that Aquaman 2 will be as nicely received from worldwide audiences as the first movie. But then again, the first installment was also a surprise success, thus, perhaps this film could end up working that magic as well.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to hit the theaters on the 22nd of December, 2023.
