The Marvel Cinematic Universe has finally entered Phase 5 and shocking things are happening right away. Beginning with rumors of Tobey Maguire’s appearance as Spider-Man in Avengers: Secret Wars, the upcoming highly anticipated superhero movie itself made bizarre headlines for its runtime.
Following Tobey Maguire’s rumors of an alleged appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars, the movie made headlines for reportedly being a massive five-hour-long project. Therefore, considering its runtime, Marvel Studios is reportedly in early discussions about splitting the film into two parts. It’s a major struggle to determine, if Secret Wars will perform better as a two-part movie, because Twilight was doomed despite a massive fanbase, due to this very reason.
Tobey Maguire’s Alleged Appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars
After Tobey Maguire‘s MCU debut as the web-slinger in Sam Raimi’s 2002 movie Spider-Man, he reprised his role in the next two sequels as Peter Parker. But soon his wall-crawling days seemed over after Sony rebooted the Spider-Man films with 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. With Andrew Garfield taking over the mantle, Maguire got erased from the slate of MCU.
However, later on, that changed with Tom Holland’s 2021 mega-hit Spider-Man: No Way Home. The multiverse-based plot brought back Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man along with Andrew Garfield and Holland’s version. Sparking massive enthusiasm with this particular take on the multiverse, Marvel stunned fans, once and for all.
Now, after Marvel opened the door to Tobey Maguire, the actor has been sparking rumors of further return in the MCU. According to recent speculations via ScreenRant, the actor is reported to reprise his role as Spider-Man in Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars. But for that exciting prospect to happen, Maguire must continue as Peter Parker in Spider-Man 4.
Thus, with Spider-Man 4 being a far-fetched dream, Tobey Maguire’s alleged return in Avengers: Secret Wars also appears to be impossible.

Avengers: Secret Wars Will Reportedly be Split in Two Parts
But while we’re on the topic of the upcoming superhero flick Avengers: Secret Wars, it’s the perfect time to discuss the things happening around the project. As per recent reports, fans might have to wait a little while longer for Secret Wars to hit the theatres, since it has reportedly become a massive five-hour-long project.
Thus, Marvel Studios is reportedly in early discussions about splitting Avengers: Secret Wars into two films. This suggests that the latter half of the movie might be delayed until Phase 7. The bomb was dropped by Jeff Sneider (The Insneider) when he disclosed the alleged information he learned from a source who revealed,
“Secret Wars is basically shaping up to be ‘a giant five-hour movie with a year-long intermission,’”.
Although the rumor is yet to be confirmed by Disney, this sounds similar to how Summit Entertainment handled the Twilight movies. Despite Stephenie Meyer completing the story of Breaking Dawn in one novel, the production company decided to earn more by splitting it into two parts. Eventually, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter, it not only destroyed the franchise’s fanbase, but also failed to earn box office numbers, as planned.
Following the production company’s grave mistake, the Twilight series faced a notable downfall in viewership and fanbase. Despite initially creating a craze among fans, the Breaking Dawn sequels pulled in less bank domestically than New Moon and Eclipse with almost double the budget. Now, in case Marvel follows the footsteps of Twilight, it might not end well with the studio. Already struggling with its projects, Avengers: Secret Wars might be the last hope left for the MCU. Therefore, splitting the movie doesn’t seem to be a plausible plan.
