Ever since the departure of Daniel Craig from the helms of James Bond after an iconic run that spanned over five films, several actors are reportedly being considered for the next 007 alongside Henry Cavill. But amidst the search for the next Bond, according to Phoebe Waller-Bridge, it seems that the studios aren’t quite relished by the idea of a female rendition of the iconic character moving forward.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge debunks the idea of a female James Bond

While sharing her experience about the production of No Time to Die, which marked the end of Craig’s iconic run as 007, Phoebe Waller-Bridge shared her viewpoint on the idea of a female James Bond. The Fleabag actress went on to debunk this idea, as she explained that James Bond should always be James Bond, and instead of gender swapping, they should focus on crafting equally great female rivals for the character. She said,

“I think Bond is James Bond. We just need to cook up someone to rival him.”

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s comments about the situation stands in line with the James Bond star, who had a pretty similar response to the concept of having a female James Bond. Craig expressed that instead of swapping the genders of previously established characters, there should be equally great characters for women to portray.

But considering that the idea of a female James Bond has been sidelined, it seems that the search for the next 007 stars is still far from over, as according to new rumors, Cavill is not being cast as 007.

Even though Henry Cavill has been regarded as one of the best candidates to take the mantle of the iconic role from Daniel Craig, it appears that the studios have something else planned for the actor. According to a new report by Giant Freakin Robot, it seems that despite playing the lead, the Man of Steel star is reportedly in talks for playing the antagonist in the upcoming Bond entry.

But considering that this rumor doesn’t have substantial weight behind it, the legitimacy of the report remains under question. And it seems that fans are still hopeful about Cavill being cast as the next 007, as the actor possesses the charm and personality to move James Bond’s six-decade-old legacy forward.
