Amy Adams Couldn’t Return To The Office As She Was Busy Shooting The Fighter

Amy Adams appeared in the first and second seasons of the hit American sitcom The Office. She had a romantic arc with John Krasinski’s Jim Dwight which ended in the second season. After that, no one knew what had become of the character. The makers of the show wanted to get her back for season 7 of the show but she was unable to return.

Adams was a busy actress by then and she couldn’t come back to the show due to scheduling conflicts with another film she was doing. She was shooing for David O. Russell’s The Fighter at the time and had to let go of the opportunity to return to the show. B.J Novak talked about this aspect to OfficeTally saying,

“Yes. We really wanted Amy Adams (Katy). I had scripted a scene in which she is a ‘Floozy’ in bed with Michael Scarn before Dwight wakes him up with a mission from the President…Katy explained with a little embarrassment how she had some interest in acting back then, and we catch up with where she is in the present day. But she wasn’t available to film the week we were filming.”

It would have been very exciting to see Katy’s arc and what she had been doing in her life post her relationship with Jim. Plus, it would be an interesting reunion for Adams and Krasinski together and the show could have had another fun arc for the two after all those years.

Amy Adams has an upcoming dark comedy film called Nightbitch. The film has a weirdly exciting premise where a stay-at-home mother starts believing that she is turning into a canine. The director of the film Marielle Heller talked (via Variety) about how the book on which the film is based, captivated her instantly and the excitement of seeing Adams in such a unique role, saying,

“Rachel Yoder’s book took my breath away. I haven’t felt this way about [a] book since I read The Diary of a Teenage Girl many years ago. Rachel’s darkly hilarious tale of motherhood and rage made me feel seen. And adapting it with Amy Adams in mind has been the thing that has kept me going through the pandemic. I am so thrilled to be bringing this movie to life with wonderful partners in Anne Carey, Annapurna Pictures, and Searchlight. It is a dream come true.”

The film looks like it will be a whole new territory (and a fun one) for Adams. The film is set to be distributed by Hulu. Details about whether there will be a theatrical release are currently unknown. Fans have to wait for an official confirmation from the makers of the film regarding the same.
